I didn’t fully understand the saying “man’s best friend” until today. I never really thought losing a dog would would leave such an empty hole in my heart. Everyone thinks their dog is the best but I know why Sophie was the best and so special to me. Perhaps it has something to do with the attentive and loyal characteristics of the German Shepard breed, but I also think it’s more than that. I remember when I was in 1st grade and we got Sophie, she was so patient with my sister and I, even though we would dress her up in clothing and make her the star of our movies. We were lucky enough to have her around until both my sister and I graduated and moved on to post secondary school. She was with us every step of the way.
It’s hard to say goodbye, let alone forget. As time went on Sophie increasingly got more crippled in her condition, and carrying her around the house was a necessity but I did it happily knowing that it was what she needed and she still brought joy to the family. (She loved riding around in the 60 series - we went for a drive to the beach before she went to sleep) - I couldn’t get her out of the vehicle.
They say, you don’t know what you had until it’s gone, I realize this now, Sophie wasn’t just a dog, she was a caretaker, protector, comforter and the very best dog/friend ever.
You will be missed Sophie. 2010-2023
And ultimately, I feel more things than I am able to write, but I know you guys understand.
4th photo is of the dog waiting for my sister and I to get home… she did this on the regular!
Not to mention the huge folder of pictures of her helping me build my 60 series!
