Let’s try this again, prior thread deleted, I assume they want to keep it clean, there was no explation given.

If you have sold a 100 series recently and want to share what you paid with details on truck this will be helpful for potential buyers currently looking.

This thread can be helpful for buyers looking to understand the market and different factors that come into play on pricing.

Please stay on topic!

I recently sold 2004 LX with 176k for 12,500. Truck was 9/10 on condition with full service records. Southern Vehicle no rust.

Be prepared to wait a year or two. If anyone wants to buy anything, they need to do it now. Wholesale market (MMR) has spiked about $2500 in the past 2-4 weeks and it's not slowing down. NADA and Black Book are both revising prices upwards. Used cars were already in demand because of the pandemic. Now new car sales are sputtering out because of semiconductor and foam shortages -- this is driving more people into buying used and/or choking off the flow of trade-ins.

Gonna be a wild year.

Yeah, I have to eat my own words on this one. I thought I was going to wait until the fall to see if prices stopped rising on the 100 series. After getting more data and looking at the recent historical meteoric rise of the 100 series resale uptrend I changed my outlook. There is no reason to suggest prices will stop increases and these cars will continue to APPRECIATE for the foreseeable future.

A truck popped up in my area, and I might be interested in it for the wife.

2006 Grey LX470 with 165k miles
1 owner FL owned since new
Extensive service records from dealer only (TB and WP at ~80k, rear main seal replaced recently, alternator replaced etc.)
seller won't budge from the asking price of 18k...thoughts? Considering the current market, is 18k a deal or nothing special?

Buy it.

Just picked up this '06 LX in Classic Silver, with 224K on the clock, for $14K from the second owner. Drove 1200 miles home without missing a beat. Very happy now. My third cruiser ('88 FJ62 and '97 FZJ80).

Yeah, I'm actually a car buyer -- have been for 10+ years -- and there's never been anything like what's going on. Closest thing to it was the run on gas sippers back in 2012 when gas spiked.

New and used car inventories are literally running out. And this is just the beginning of the wave.

That's really good insight. Makes me really glad I didn't wait to get my last 100.

For reference, I just bought a 2000 Land Cruiser with 168k miles here in South Florida. No rust whatsoever anywhere under the car and just two tiny spots of surface rust near the front grill. Tiny. Car is completely stock and absolutely everything works. Clean CarFax, no accidents, clean title. Does not appear to have been driven off road as there are no scrapes or scratches anywhere under the vehicle. White with chateau beige interior. Options include third row seats, roof rack, trailer hitch, privacy glass, running boards and wood trim interior (or is it just plastic?). Due for a timing belt in 12k miles or so. Runs and drives perfectly. Paid $8,000.

That's an incredible price. I mean incredible. How did you find it?

Well I'm glad to hear that it sounds like a good deal. I found it on Facebook marketplace. He wanted $9,500 and since the timing belt is coming due I negotiated the price down to $8,000. I actually offered him $7,000 to start with and then he said he would take $8,000 and no less. I went home, thought about it and called him back and bought it that day. I'm very happy with it and it drives like a Swiss watch in the sense that there are no rattles, squeaks, groans or vibrations. Just a great running truck and as I said, it does not appear to have been driven off road as the underneath extremely clean with no scratches, scuffs, scrapes or any other indication that it had come in contact with the ground. No rust whatsoever anywhere underneath. I was actually wondering if I had paid too much! Thanks for the feedback.

You could have paid twice that amount and still been a good deal. I can't believe you nabbed that. It's even more amazing that it was still there after you left and went home. I hate to say it, but you should think about flipping it. Go look at the prices on Bring a Trailer and Cars & Bids and you'll easily double your investment.

You didn't just get a "good price", you won the lottery.

Thanks. It's not perfect but it runs great. I think I'll hang on to it. Nice to know that it's not another depreciating asset and that I'll get my money back if I sell it. Thanks for the feedback.

I feel like that one has been sitting there a while and they're just re-listing it now. Or they had a very similar one priced at $64k. A few things I find funny about this one:

1. Larger tires and a bunch of money thrown at ARB parts but a tiny stock spare? I wouldn't be chuffed if I bought a rig off a random dude with this setup, but for $64k I should not have to add/think about a single damn thing when I drive off the lot. Especially not: "What happens if I get a flat on the drive home?"
2. The comparison to the BaT auction trying to justify the price. Yea, that truck sold for what it did because it was the closest thing to a brand new 100 series you will likely find anywhere. While I appreciate that this is low mileage, throwing a bunch of ARB parts on a low mileage truck is going to DECREASE the value for anyone shopping 100's at this price point, not increase it.
3. "It smells wonderful inside." Umm... okay. Weird thing to point out.
I think most of their Overland Build rigs are done with Dobison parts...
