Magnetman,

Is there a monstaliner base, that we can tint to match our own color.

I talked to you last year about developing a Toyota color for me. It's called " Cygnus White " We never went through with it, as I don't have a small piece of sample to send you, If I could send something, would you still be interested. Cygnus White is a very well used white on toyotas.

Manufactures code is 012

Thanks, Ron

I think that it is stated on their website that you can use the Monstaliner base with any pure color (minus the bonder?) and mix as you would with their colors. I know that I have recently read this and believe there is even a MUD member that did this. From what I remember, when you go to your local auto paint supplier and ask them for the Cygnus White you just basically want the pigment and nothing else added. I will see if I can find what I am talking about because I know I am not stating it correctly.

Yup found it on the first page.....

"If you went to a local auto paint store this is what you need to specify:

(I want to purchase only the toner portion of my vehicle color for 1 full gallon of BASECOAT. Omit any binders, balancers or reducers called for in the formula - use pigmented toners only. Do not use water-based or lacquer-based colorants.)

You do not want to use the complete paint you could purchase because if you only add 8 - 12 oz of that to the ML tintable you will have a transparent mess and will get little if any coverage. By using the toner colors only you are basically dropping in the concentrated pigments portion that goes into a full gallon of basecoat into the equal amount of bedliner and it will cover like it was designed to." https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=6878137&postcount=15

Magnetman - Did you guys ever figure out the issue with the rollers disintegrating and leaving bits of foam in the paint? This seemed to be a recurring complaint in every forum I've checked. Are you guys supplying different rollers or at least including additional rollers? How many would you recommend using for each gallon of paint?

Roller problem was an issue with a single lot of rollers we had in early to mid 2011. You do don't see current complaints only the one problem that people harp on and keep bringing up because they heard about it somewhere online. It's like a viral Youtube video. Unless you know something I do not?

I monitor JeepForum daily which is where I first launched this product and has an astronomical amount of current and past customers and this never comes up or at least I don't hear about it and that would be the first sign of trouble. I only get questions like you asked about hearing of the issue and if it still exists.

We still use the same supplier and the issue was ID'd as an insufficient adhesive application between the foam and the core.

Many people buy 1 gallon kits with only the 2 included rollers and have no issues. A very fair amount order 1 extra roller + the mini kit for tight spots and corners.

I've looked at a few other suppliers and have one potential alternate source that I like. Problem is that nothing is made in the USA anymore and every few months I have to smack myself into not reaching over to China where things are at least 1/2 price.

Rollers break mainly from overstressing them. The foam is still a fragile material and if you roll too fast or too hard the foam stretches prematurely and can break free from the core. We've tested other types of foam and nothing but the open cell structure get's the product to look like you see in photos. Flat foam makes a mess.

Excellent, you are now a junior tech support member. Thanks for the help!

Can you provide me some more history on the Cygnus white? What years does it cover and I will see if I may already have a visual in the pile of auto paint chip books here

Plastic loop roller will work but it holds very little liquid so you are dipping ver often. A regular solvent resistant roller (good qual wall painting type) could be used to apply and then go over with plastic loop but I've not tested it

Are those something that you can easily pick up at Lowe's/Home Depot? Would be interested in trying out the loop or supplied roller and then second coating with your "regular solvent resistant" roller, might result in a smoother, light orange peel look.

They are available at HD or Lowes, sometimes they are gold in color and mainly 9" long so you need to cut down to 4" and clean up the cut edge

I can get them in 4" if it works

Thanks for the information MM. When I get a little more time I will see what I can come up with and see about testing this theory out.

Thanks for the info. I also read the earlier stories and saw how the issue was addressed. But I talked to another member here via PM that lined his rig a few months and had the roller problem, so that's why I was a bit concerned. I think I'll just order several extra rollers to be safe :)

Not an expert on the years, but used on 40, 55 and I believe the 60 models. It's an off-white. You had talked of adding some new colors, back then.

Great to see MM back online and active. A couple of us mud members here in Sacramento considering a ML party this summer. Keep us up on any deals - I like about your product that there isn't in particulate junk used to create the texture!

MM, finally got a minute to go out and take some pics with approximate measurements of the 60. If my calculations are right, based on what you were saying beforehand, I should be able to get away with a gallon of each color with approximately a pint of each color left over. This should allow for more than adequate coverage but not a super thick, textured coat.

Color match

Any chance you could offer something that matches the gold on the 80 series? I may just do the whole thing in "pass the bubbly" but I was wondering about an exact match in case I do just the lower portion and roof. This is definitely the product I'm going to go with though...gonna hopefully have enough to do the plastic on my KLR650 as well.
