magnetman, I'll buy a quart of Olive (653) right now and pay double for a color match. If you want some original-painted metal to match it to, I could send that along. Send me a PM.

The colors of the uploaded reference pictures on the toyotareference link show my problem They are all over the board. I want it to match the original paint on my dash.

gregnash,

Thanks again for going to the trouble to send color chip. Received today.

Would be willing to mail to whomever I promised Thursday, but can't find the post discussing.

I'm not trying to be anal, but don't think this tint will work for mine, considering the goal is to leave door handles installed, and reason for "white", to begin with.

Realize the pics are about worthless, but....

Open to suggestions or Internet bashing, whichever aids in determination.

I'm really liking the Sans Panties color.

I am, too, but not sure if I would in real life....well. sans panties.

Like a tan for inset portion on door panels that matches ( closely, not perfectly ) the interior of the LX.

Can you confirm?

Sans Panties is pretty green, more OD Green then OD Green. I have a sample of that as well. Seems like the white on your LX is more of a cream.

The other option you have is to get the base texture of MonstaLiner that is tintable and then following MM's instructions on what to get from your local paint supply to get the EXACT color from TOYOTA.
Always an option.

Mace,
It's been almost two years now. How is the ML holding up?

Holding up beautifully. Vegas sun and all.

I even decided to do the hood and rockers of my Ford truck with it because it worked so well.

Not sure how this is going to work for me as my local paint supply had to sort of guess to get paint to match. Where are "MM's instructions"?

From post #15 on the first page...

To tint 1 gallon of tintable ML you only need 8oz of the tints we are making. Automotive colorants may need slightly more, up to 12 oz since they are not as concentrated.

If you went to a local auto paint store this is what you need to specify:

(I want to purchase only the toner portion of my vehicle color for 1 full gallon of BASECOAT. Omit any binders, balancers or reducers called for in the formula - use pigmented toners only. Do not use water-based or lacquer-based colorants.)

You do not want to use the complete paint you could purchase because if you only add 8 - 12 oz of that to the ML tintable you will have a transparent mess and will get little if any coverage. By using the toner colors only you are basically dropping in the concentrated pigments portion that goes into a full gallon of basecoat into the equal amount of bedliner and it will cover like it was designed to.

Does this make sense?

What you will actually leave the store with is only a 1/2 quart approx of liquid

That looks awesome snoozer! So I take it the ribbed interior floor panel of your 40 was done in the Monstaliner, anything else though?

Any suggestions of any way to line the door handles without removing?

No, I'm not lazy, but the interiors of the doors are all already done and it'd take an eternity to remove and replace.

^ I've pondered this myself as I prepare for the project in the coming months. I don't think there's an easy way regardless of spraying or rolling. If you paint over the seams and rubber seals it will be a matter of time before it starts to come loose and it might take more material with it.

I think I'll be taking mine apart and paint the pieces individually, then reassemble.

I don't think there's any standard Monstaliner color that will match. The closest may be WWII OD Green, and even that isn't close. But it's very tan/brown. There's really nothing green about it. The only time I've noticed it looks green is in deep shade away from sunlight. Any bit of lit hits it and it's full on brown.

Here's a pic I took, OD Green on the left:

As you can see it's a very misconceiving name and color chip.

Thats funny you ask. I made an entire post from my phone that never posted completely.

I used three gallons total. I bought the tint without the binders as recommended. That cost me about 35 bucks from a big local paint place. It can be tough for them to understand what you want at first.

I sprayed the entire underside of my tub and fenders, and i rolled the interior. I also rolled the interior of my roof cap in your monstashades white. There are pics of that on my build page ( this took a half gallon). I found that the product went much further rolled vs sprayed. This is why I rolled the interior and roof (and I like the texture better).

I advise getting an extra set of the mini rollers and the square sponge. They are a must for the tubs corners and crevices.

Delancy - for the interior I think either Desert Sand or Killer Beej may work... I will take pics in the light tomorrow and if you want send those your way as well.

Thanks for pics.

Requesting a Photochop and hope to determine from there.

The handles have been, and remain being the biggest PITA if this entire process, so hopefully seeing a representation of a finished product may inspire.

Sorry I misread Delancy's post. I thought he was talking about the darker tan color. I agree, Killer Beej would be the closest match for the light tan door panel.

Just ordered some color samples. Hoping to tackle this on my 60 series sometime after gsmtr!

Back to the subject of texture; what's the verdict for a smoother finish? Roll or spray? I'm about to pull the trigger on this project.

Pat

Rolling will be way smoother than spray if you don't re-roll like the instructions say to.
