Well the truck is home.

I think the plan is to keep the truck as capable as it is now (same as Robb had it minus the rear steer), but to also make it a little more streetable.

Here she is as I see her every day. Pot o' gold.

There is a list of things to do. I won't list them yet, I'll just start with getting it street legal and insured. First on the list is a second set of "street" tires. Here I'm trying out my buddy's 14.5R20 s from his mog

Changes the look instantly. Looks like a truck instead of a buggy.

That looks pretty bad a$$. Do you have trouble with the width? What is the weakest link in the drivetrain?

I'm the weakest link. I couldn't tell you. I purchased the truck. I know a lot about it, like many out there I'm sure, so I could guess at it's weak spots.

But instead, I'll get it going, beat the crap out of it, then let you know for sure :flipoff2:

Dude, that rig is the bee's knees! Please show us more. please.

hmmm, the most "built" 45 ever in the 40 section. that's funny!

Holy! is it even possible to get that thing "street legal"?

wow, that thing is insane, now I feel like giving my 40 to the wife and starting over! Please keep the pics coming, especially the underside and the small details(if you could call anything small on that) engine pics and drivetrain pics etc, thanks -Matt

NICE. Do the mog axles limit you to 35mph or something like that?

... but then, maybe you wouldn't want to go any faster when you're sitting that high. :D

I BOUGHT the truck and did not BUILD it. So I need quite a bit of time to get familiarized with it. I'll update you guys as I learn stuff. I think there are likely a few guys out there that know more about it than I do.

It does goes over 35mph though, I know that. Although, it likely won't be driven that fast very often. It feels a little like a freight train at that speed

Ya, maybe it's in the wrong section. oh well. I did want to tame it down a little anyway.

It gives us who don't get over to the "hardcore" section very often something to look at anyway. Good looking truck! I think that I might just wander over to the "Hardcore" section and see what else I can find out about it!

Dang, we cant even come here anymore??? It'll take 3 weeks to get a response to my 2F questions in the 45 section now

40- & 55-Series Tech Questions and discussion for the 25 - 40 - 45 - 55/56 - and related-series Cruisers.

Let the saga continue. Awesome truck and If I could have pulled it off would have had the same goals. The borrowed mog tires are a good start. Looking a little more reasonable. Keep it up and keep us posted.

You lucky bastid! I was drooling over that thing in the for sale section!

It was in the Top Truck Challenge a while back wasn't it?

Last weekend I finally got the truck in my garage to start pickin' away at some things. It's freakin' cold here so I needed somewhere a little warmer to work.

Took the box off and the top (so it would fit in the garage)

Took one wheel off to try out the new (well used) 404 unimog wheel

The new wheels are 20x9 (from a 404 mog). The BL wheel is 16.5x9 but has considerably less back spacing (2.5 vs 7.5). So the wheel itself brings the centerline of the tire in 5".

This pic shows the inner edge of the mog wheel just outside of the portal box mounting flange.

I love the stance with the LTBs on there, but the overall width is 93.5".... too wide for driving around town and some of the smaller trails. With the inset mog wheels and the set of 12r20 xmls I have coming, each side is brought in 7" for a total width around 80"

I like how, even though this thing's freakishly tall, she's still got stock body lines. To the casual eye it's just an FJ45 with Marmaduke legs.

Finally did a bit of work on the truck (about 1/20th of what I was hoping to do in this time).

Tried out the new plasma, cut some new shocket brackets for the axle

Got them welded on and painted up. Here's what they look like. The top mounts (on the frame) were already there when I picked up the truck.

Finally got my michelins (street tires) and had them mounted. Also painted up the rims (they were drab green/rust)

Here is one sitting next to the LTBs

Here the back ones are mounted and LTBs on the front. I'll take pics of them all mounted in the light tomorrow
