Dang. What happen?

Went out for a lunchtime ride, started leaning into a right turn and then realized the the road was covered with sand. It was too late though, the front wheel had already washed out. I landed palms out, and got road rash from shin to arm pit, forearm and my palms.

Don't you have gloves dumb ass? (some ass kinda asked me in a way)? That was the question asked at the bottom of a downhill I f'd up on. I tore quite a bit of skin off my palm, ripped a fox jersey and cut open my chest too. I am still having probs with the dislocated finger too. Feel the pain.

I wore my gloves that morning, but decided against them for that ride :o

Rory -

Now you know - you've gotta watch for dirt on the pavement. Those skiiny road tires won't give you any traction in a turn. I had my worst bike wreck ever in the same kind of situation. I smashed myself up and toasted my rear wheel when it slammed into a guard rail as the bike flew away. My body didn't slam the rail, but it felt like it did.

Be careful out there!

Sounds like the wreck Ali had.

My only damage was to my rear derailer. It got knocked pretty hard and was overshifting into the spokes. I tired my best to adjust it out, but I gave up and took it to the pro's. All it needed was a new cable.

It looks like I may be healed up enough to take my mountain bike to Moab!:D

Back to the topic at hand.

I am going up early Thursday, but there may be others who are on your later schedule.

What time is the caravan leaving Thursday?

From this evening's discussion it looks like we have an 8am, Thursday, rendezvous at the Rio Puerco Bridge gas station. Evan, Mike and I are in the group meeting there and will take the I-40 route through Gallup. Rory is getting a later start so he can pick up his dad.

Rudy, are you still coming up on Friday, or will you be able to make our Thursday start?

Graham, want to meet in Shiprock?

Is the list still correct?

  • Rudy, FZJ80
  • Evan, FZJ80
  • Graham, FZJ80
  • Mike, FZJ80
  • Rory, FZJ80
  • Jon, RN60LV

I planned on Friday, but "asked" about Thursday too and I guess I am expected to be off? I only made reservations for Fri, Sat, and Sun. nights. Maybe I will leave on Thur. When do you need to know by?

I'll be heading up on Thursday.

Did you guys decide what trails your going to run?

We tossed out Fins, Hells Revenge, Metal Masher, Steel Bender as options so far. See post #107.

Mark,
If you have a favorite trail that you would be willing to lead then throw it out for discussion. We are really open to anything!

-Mike-

We tossed out Fins... See post #107.

Crap, I thought I heard we were doing this one. Spent an hour looking at the CM '08 pics to see what to expect. No Jon, not skeered, but just looking what to expect. I know, I am paranoid a-hole. Better get back to work and check the truck.

Rudy

I'm up for anything. I just wondered if you had finalized what trails you wanted to do. Most of the trails you've mentioned I've only done once or twice, except Hell's Revenge I think I'm over 30 trips on that one, so I'd be happy doing any or all of them.

Rudy,
I wasn't there, but I believe you took Jon's post the wrong way... He meant "threw out" as in giving those trails as possibilities, not as in eliminating those trails.

Fins is on the short list because it is close to town and has many exit points. This makes it good for an afternoon trail where one or all can leave the trail early if needed or getting late or whatever.

 Thanks for the clarification Mike. It's not like I can remember all of the trails by looking at pics anyways. I will need to check in the morning to see if I will be leaving on Thursday. I will let you guys know tommorow.

Rudy

I am almost ready!

I spent most of yesterday trying to orient Ali's Engel. I think I am happy with where it is now. What do you guys do for food? Do you usually plan to eat in town, or do you cook?

We have gone both ways. It depends on mood. For CM we almost always eat out. Last year I recall a dinner at Slickrock.

I am in for leaving Thursday. Not sure about the 8 A.M. meeting (anytime I can sleep in I will take advantage of). Just got off the phone with KOA and reserved time for Thurs. night. If anything I will catch up or meet you guys there.

I am a go for the 8:00 AM Thursday meeting at the Rio Puerco gas station. As I recall from the discussion at the meeting, we are talking about the gas station on the north side of I-40, NOT the big one at the casino on the south side of I-40.

I'll see Mike & Jon there and anyone else who shows up.

Hey Rory -

I will have some drinks and snacks with me, but mostly will plan on eating out. I may do a protein shake for a couple of breakfasts.

I'm sure you'll become acquainted with the Moab Brewery!

The Chevron station in Moab has a great little deli. I usually pick up a sandwich there for lunch on the trail. They also have the usual drinks, chips, etc. And free air at the end of the day is always a good thing.

We'll look for you guys on Thursday evening.

Evan

Guys have a great trip. I have two audits at work to prepare for, so there is no way to get away.
