You will really enjoy the way it runs with the sniper kit. The black looks real nice.

...only to find out that the 2F flywheel and pressure plate ****** told me I needed to use is incompatible with the F bellhousing and other parts

In case you are wondering what happens if you do...

Basically, you end up with about two inches of air between the throwout bearing and pressure plate. Don’t know why I didn’t notice it while assembling, but here we are.

The transmission & tcase would need to come back out and the F parts put back in.

Ugh. Oh well.

I had already started assembling things, and figured it would be easier to leave the engine in and just swap the tcase/transmission from below.

The goal was to keep the original canister air cleaner vs. an open element filter.

However, this one was going to be a pain to make work. The center of the Holley is an inch or so closer to the firewall than the carb (the butterflies are centered over the intake, but they are offset in the gasketed circle), and the circular mount of this one would be hard to shift fore/aft.

I had this super nice (non-US ?) canister in my stash and it looked like it would work better...

It’s flat-faced mount could more easily be added to and subtracted from to make it work.

It also needed some carving to clear the Saginaw pump.

It took some work and a Mr. Gasket air cleaner riser to get the lid to sit flat, but I got it all mocked up:

Have you already pulled the transmission transfer case? I think you have something else wrong. 2F clutch and flywheel should work with any bellhousing. I ran them with a 3-speed 1F bellhousing.

It looks like you have the F throwout bearing with is ~1/4-1/2” shorter but I don’t think that’s your main issue.. how do you have the slave mounted?

The arm was maxed out just as the bearing was making contact with pressure plate. No room for more travel.

I researched it after and found the wizards saying you need the same era parts used together to make it work.

But, it’s back together with the F flywheel & three finger pressure plate and it works perfect, so we’re on to the next challenge...

Exhaust manifold leaks!

It’s been a while without updates...

The manifold was leaking and would almost seal with a Remflex (but not totally), and then one of the ears that holds the downpipe studs crumbled off, so we punted and went to a header.

A new O2 bung was welded in, and a coat of VHT applied...

It was a major pain fishing this in to place, and I had to cut the ear off due to the Sag pump being in the way, but it went in, and sealed up nicely with no leaks.

Since the header doesn’t mate perfectly with the stock exhaust, and since the original exhaust was pretty crusty and undersized for this monster 2F, we had an all new exhaust put on after the header.

Looking great. How’s the fuel table learning going?

It’s going good. It picks it up quickly. Most of the driving, it’s close to zero percent correction. It’s the transitional throttle positions that are still learning.

There’s less than a 100 miles on it so far though, and it gets better with every drive.
