engine is in great hands now... droped it off at Posers shop on saturday, we did not do anything with it except take a few othere things off it that Poser did not want to leave on there when going to machine shop. also brought along my tranny and transfer case because the output shaft was leaking down the splines, so poser took off parking break and cleaned it all up and put silicone in there behind the washer to stop that from happening...

Hang in there Aaron! You have done a great job, so don't let some jerk get the best of you. I've been shafted a few times and they always seem to work out in the end. I wish I had space to work on my 40, so I'm living vicariously through your build until I can get a place to build my 40. Keep up the great work.

#4 Main bearing cap, bearing halves and #6 connecting rod and bearing.


#4 Main bearing was installed reversed, meaning the lower bearing was in the upper section of the engine block, preventing oil from lubricating that main bearing and the #6 connecting rod bearing.

It is main bearing material that was once solid, that because of heat, turned into a liquid, and then started migrating through the oil passages in the crankshaft...

Note to self after reading the last few pages: Be extremely careful putting 2F back together so this doesn't happen to me. I'm going to start putting mine back together this afternoon. This really sucks but at least it's in good hands now. I take it that crank is toast?

Aaron is very fortunate that the main bearing did not spin; otherwise the block would have been ruined as well. Neither the main bearing nor the rod bearing actually bonded to the crankshaft and rotated in its respective bore. The lack of lubrication to the connecting rod bearing started making noise and fortunately Aaron shut the engine down before things turned worse.


You going to the UP this year?

Note to self after reading the last few pages: Be extremely careful putting 2F back together so this doesn't happen to me. I'm going to start putting mine back together this afternoon. This really sucks but at least it's in good hands now. I take it that crank is toast?

If you think that something is not correct, ASK SOMEONE about it!


The crankshaft will need to be ground .020", and the number 6 connecting rod is garbage. I am going back down there this morning to look over the other components and see what else is going on.
