Got up at 5AM Sunday morning, wiped down the truck one final time and mixed the paint…. Takes me a long time to paint as I paint many many thin coats… so when I say I think the truck has 9 coats on it… probably true… but this color is weird because it is almost transparent and the first 2 coats you can still see through it… maybe that is how all paint is… guess I never painted any color but this and some black..

Over all the paint is just ok… wish it would have laid flatter and I did not have as much orange peal as I do… but I will be able to wet sand that all out and buff everything… so guess I am not upset or happy at this point…. But I can not wait to see what it will look like after 15-20 hours of wet sanding… starting that tonight I think…

On another note the hood is not in as good of shape as I originally thought… once I got it all wet sanded out and put water on it.. You can see some waves in it… and once I shot paint they were there also… it is not that bad and to tell you the truth I don’t think my body work ability is good enough to get them out… so I am not unhappy I went ahead and shot paint but just a thought

btw- build looks fantastic.

the paint looks very nice........

where did you get your tub at? i assume it is an aluminum tub, why did you use that instead of metal??

just curious.......

It does not rust... main reason... the other one is that the metal tubs are way more expensive. I was not doing a straight up factory restoration anyhow. True I do want my truck to appear as stock as possible but not going throught the length it takes to get it to factory perfect. and I suck at body work so I did not want to try to replace panels..

bought the tub from Ted at cruiser solutions.

Spent 4 hours last night wet sanding and buffing the driver side rear quarter and rocker panel… started out with 1500 and worked my way up to 2000 grit paper… then used 2 buffing compounds…. Keep in mind I have never used a buffer before either… so I taped off all sharp edges as the guy at the paint store told me to do… I have to say it looks so great!!! There is sooooooooooo much depth to that color once it is sanded out…. It probably could have used a little more buffing to be a better… but I don’t want to push my luck on it any more for now… threw on the fender flare and the rock slider for show…

Just a few pics… but they defiantly do not do it justice…

I cut my thumb pretty good with a razor last night… not like bad enough were I need stitches but I think bad enough that I will not be able to wet sand today.. I am going to try with my left hand mainly but don’t know how that will work…

Had a lazy 5-6 hours in the shop yesterday…. My dad came up to see the paint had a few beers and Bs for a while. After he left I was able to wet sand and buff out that other rear quarter.. then my thumb started bleeding again so I just quit doing that for the day.. I decided to put on my “new” emblems on… Now I know Toyota put them in the opposite order than this… but I like them better this way… and it is my truck… right…

And I know you are all going to find this difficult to believe but Ted showed up about 9PM.. Been a while since he was here. Since he was here we put the rear bumper on again… I will have to take it off again to drill more holes but at least I can mark them and also I need to clean up some space in the parts shed so they are better sitting on the truck than on the floor…

Just a few pics for you today…

Wow, want to come to Kentucky and do my body work and paint? :D

I'll be happy if mine turns out 1/2 that well!

well I am not to the difficult stuff yet... I think the front clip will take more work... I did order a smaller 4" buffer... should be here anyday... :D

but yea I am really happy with how it is turing out so far...

Kentucky where is that???? isnt that where they have that fried chicken??? :flipoff2::flipoff2:

Kentucky: Happy hunting ground. Home of fast women, beautiful horses and the best whiskey in the world.

Or maybe that was fast horses and beautiful women....

Yeah we have great ckicken too.... :flipoff2:

I didn't see a good shot of your front bumper? I need one and was wondering how yours looked. I ordered a tire carrier but had to get the one minus the basket cause of the $$$.

I was trying to catch up to your build but I finally get the fame done and motor put back in and then.....freakin front knuckle just starts leaking so I ordered a rebuild kit and new hubs cause mine looked like poop. I also wanted to know where you got the fender flares and the nerf bars and their price? I promise I will start my own thread one day.
