To clarify, the key fob that Fred Haas Toyota sells is for the (Audiovox securikey+) alarm system. This system was a dealer installed option at the port and is the exact 3 button key fob that came with my 97 40th anniversary.
Does your fob do anything other than lock and unlock ? does more than 1 button work ?

My remote arrived today, and even came with instructions. They were effectively the same instructions posted by @JLH911 above. The remote feels solid, and appears to be good quality. No problem pairing the remote from original post eBay link. (...once I found the pairing button. It was easy to see the button when I shined a light under the driver side rail of the driver's seat.) I'm fairly excited to have a working alarm, even if it is 20 year old tech. So this is ABSOLUTELY worth the $15 to me!

On the downside, the range is almost as poor as most have reported the factory system. It may work from 50' for me. Time to research "grey wire mod" and find how to improve the antenna. Also as previously mentioned in this thread, the lock and unlock buttons both do the same thing. If the truck is locked, pressing either button unlocks it. If the truck is unlocked, either button locks it, and turns on the alarm. I tested that the alarm works because of the next thing I don't like ...unlocking with the key does not turn off the alarm. (I think that's an issue with the alarm system, and nothing to do with any remote.) Finally, I don't think 4 of the buttons on the (6 button) remote do anything on my truck.

Net opinion: I'm buying another of these remotes, to have two! Thanks for starting this thread!
Wait, which one did you buy? From the OP first post ebay link? The picture looks different. Can you post your link? I need one of these for my 97 LX.

I bought the $15.25 fob from the first post. New Toyota Replacement Keyless Entry Car Remote Alarm Transmitter Key Fob Click | eBay When I first paired it to my truck, I may have tried both the lock and unlock buttons to activate; because both buttons were able to lock or unlock the truck. (The other 4 buttons on the six button remote seem to do nothing.) When I got a second and third remote (mentioned later in the thread) I decided to clear all codes from my alarm. When I re-paired my remote, only one button controls the alarm/locks. I have not yet checked if the other button can be used to program the alarm system (valet mode, piezo chirp on/off, passive arming, etc.) or if the second button could be used on another RS3000 alarm so my brother and I can unlock each other's trucks. The way my alarm is set right now, the passive arming is enabled, but the piezo "chirp" is disabled.

I think it's pretty cool that if I unlock my truck via the remote, and then don't open a door within 30 seconds, it locks again, and the alarm re-arms. That's handy if you think you locked it as you walked away, but actually unlocked it.

I also thought it was cool that you can turn off the alarm with the key, even if the alarm is triggered, by turning the key to "on" then "accessory" then back to "on". At least according to RS3000 Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection

Just found the thread about identifying the tvss. My truck has it! Let's hope the flooding hasn't ruined the box lol.
I'm having less luck... how do you know if your vehicle has it? I'm seeing the alarm under the drivers seat so I'm guessing it should have keyless entry but I didn't get a fob when I bought it. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

If you have the box under the driver's seat that looks like the ones pictured in the previous posts, and you have electric locking doors; you have an alarm and keyless entry. I didn't have a fob from the previous owner. I bought one of the ones mentioned in this post. Now I have working keyless entry and an alarm.

So my LX450 has an auto page remote start/ alarm keyless entry, it is creating parasitic drain and needs to be removed, I checked for the RS 3000 box under the seat but it's not there, it does have the security light on the dash, can I go back to the rs3000 provided I can find one or would I be better off to get a quality aftermarket unit?

My reason to stay with the RS3000, was based on it already having been installed, and my not want to create new splices in the 20 year old wiring. If I was installing a replacement alarm, the only way I'd consider trying to locate a 20 year old alarm to install, is if the previous harness was already intact, so it was a REALLY simple bolt-in. Assuming the old alarm was completely uninstalled when your current alarm was installed, I'd shop for a new aftermarket kit (or just see if the parasitic drain can be removed from the current alarm, even if that means no alarm or keyless entry.) Other than having an alarm, I don't see much value in having keyless entry without also having keyless engine start. As it is, I need to grab my fob to unlock (and disable my alarm) and then grab my key to start my truck. I don't find switching from fob to key any easier than just using the key to unlock the door.

for clarity, out there in the wide ocean of ebay, there is a "black" and a "gray" remote that you can buy for our 80's. they refer to the original 2 button OEM FOB's that came with the truck. they are not interchangeable. most of our trucks take the gray one but you have to see what system the dealer put in the truck. the fobs might even have the same FCC ID. i am also shocked someone got the 2nd button to work on an aftermarket fob. it 99% of the time only works with one button which just cycles lock and unlock.

They got one back in stock, and I decided to get an OEM remote to go with the discount fobs I'd ordered. I wanted a spare. I thought the OEM remote only has two buttons. The one they shipped to me was a 3 button remote, did not say Toyota, and (most importantly) did not pair with my truck. I just sent them an email to discuss returning it. (from their eBay ad, that seems like an option they offer for the first several days)

On the chance that my LC had reached it's 4 fob limit, I cleared all pairing from my alarm by activating the security light, then pressing the pairing button again within 5 seconds. I got the double horn honk mentioned in @JLH911 's instructions on pairing. I confirmed that none of my fobs worked. I tried again to pair the "OEM" remote, and no luck. I paired one of the $15 remotes, and had no problem. I tried the OEM again, and nothing. I tried a second $15 fob and it also paired.

After clearing my alarm and re-pairing my $15 remotes, ONLY the button I pressed to pair the alarm works (but still locks/arms alarm - then unlocks/disarms). I'll soon check to see if the other "unlock" button can be paired to lock/unlock my brother's Land Cruiser. (The first set of pairing instructions say you can use one two button fob to control two TVSS alarms. One button for each.)
What’s the diffference between TVSS and RS3000? Bought a remote that would unlock the doors but will not lock the doors. System would arm though...
