Hi guys (and ladies)

Did some digging on the forum and found a few threads regarding tyres but couldn't find any pics.

Just wondering if anyone has pics of their 40's with as set off Michelin XZL 9.0r16 (255/100R16)
(keen to see if anyone is also running Michelin XZL 8.25r16 34s)

Also, wondering what lift you went with and if you didn't use the standard toyota splits, which rims/offset you used to avoid scrubbing

TIA

Haven't seen those before, but could be a great option for those looking for a tall skinny tire.

In my view the 9.00R16 are a bit too big on a J4
Well dressed on a Power Wagon.....

Michelin 1100r16 XL tires ( scroll down a bit)
.... a J4 is well dressed with 7.50/16
Cheers

My understanding of the Michelin 255/100R16 was that only used tires were available in the US from military take-offs, and that the new production was only being sent to Afghanistan and others. The British were/are using the smaller ones on their Wolf Defenders.

Great tires, but................buying an expensive set of rare used tires without a source for replacements, and having to spend to ship them, seems iffy. If they were available new at competitive prices and at regular outlets for an extended time period would change my mind.

I bought 11-16s for my M37 through the government, they sell off new tires that time out. Somewhere @ 3 years and gone.

Yes.....it does look great and if i were just staying in the city, i'd probably just put the 7.5r16 on splits and be done with it but need some rugged tyres for the Aussie outback and a mix of rocks/mud/sand.

You will need to trade in your shift knob though........probably won’t get into 5th or 6th......or maybe u will? ;)

:) .....hopefully being a snail....it'll save my licence (or maybe i'll need a snail to help it move) :) lol

Yes....they are used by the military in Oz and they have a "reserve" on these tyres on consignment incase there's ever a war that they can get them from all suppliers (in other words....they don't sell to the public unless you know where to get them from)
There aren't too many suppliers that deal with them but i did find them new for around $700AUD which isn't too bad considering they'll last over 100,000km.

Another reason i looked at the 255/100r16 was to give more clearance under the leafs/diffs without lifting the body too much and raising the COG plus they're nearly indestructible.

Just weighing up options on power/gearing and what's needed to make them fit (suspension wise and rim offset)

Finding second hand is near impossible as they're snapped up very quickly.
The big disadvantage is that some may have been sitting in the sun for years so you don't know how good the tyre integrity is
What tyres are on the 55?

forgotten.... all these new 70 series have still tubes in the split rims.
These new Toyota split rims are different to the old J4 16 steelies & split rims. The J7 tire tube valves doesn`t fit. Different inner tube valve size.
Got my Dunlop designer shoes from such a vehicle ( tyres produced in 2017 and only used to drive them on a ship in Japan)

This may not be much help, but a few months ago I found an eBay add for a place in Ontario, Canada that was selling decent used military takeoffs.

Thanks.....abit too far and the transport cost wouldn't be economical :)

The 55 has 255/85-16 tires on it.

Thanks!

The 7.50r16 is a decent tyre but was trying to get away from splits if i can help it but retain the old school look with rims/hubcaps.
I did run splits for awhile on a different truck but had dramas with the tube getting pinched at low pressures all the time.....the sand here is like powder on the beaches and we usually go down to 10psi at times.

I also want to get some clearance under the truck so looking for a 34" tyre
Most of the boys over east run 35" tyres and some are up on 38s and 40s so the tracks get chewed up
Being leaf sprung you get hung up so more diff clearance is always good ;)

Also, not sure if you're aware but the new 70 series here in Australia come with 7.50r16s (some with 225/95r16) but NOT on split rims anymore.
I would use these rims BUT they're only 5 stud (i need 6 stud) hence why i'm on the lookout for the older non-split rims or alternatives that don't cost a fortune.

Figured I’d post on this thread as well. Has anyone attempted making the the 9.00r16 fit inside the rear well without cutting the exterior well? Looks like a super close fit. One side fits and the other is sup close - guessing it rolled at one point as the rear shock mount / cross member is bent.
