Got mine cleaned and prepped! I used 4 cans of Rustoleum self etching primer. Ready for rattle can or LINE-X.

That looks really good! What did you use to coat them or did you have it done somewhere?

Power Coated by the good folks at Andrews Coating in Chatsworth... they do all the ICON 4X4 FJ's and Bronco's.... Will have them coat the Dissent Bumpers as well once I scrape up enough coin...

Ordered! Don't tell the wife...

A lot of guys talking about prep here, but very few taking about creating a proper profile on the steel for your primer to stick to. Nothing sticks well to a smooth surface. A good angular profile that matches the spec sheet of the primer you’re using is key to a successful coating. Using any rattle can paint or primer is a waste of time if you want long term protection. Another issue is getting in all the books and crannies. Skip welds are notoriously difficult to properly coat in between the welds. Make sure you prep those nooks well and prime effectively. Anybody with a decent compressor can spray a quality DIY bed liner like Raptor Liner so why bother with the rattle can stuff?

No, you can't touch up powder coating. It looks nice once, when you put it on. I used an epoxy engine paint. Almost indestructible, easy spray-on touch up.

Why can’t you touch it up like any other coating? (You can)

And with so many epoxy choices out there, why use one designed for high temps? If it came from a rattle can, it’s probably not a good epoxy.

Every time I see someone saying "you can't touch up powder coating", I always laugh and scratch my head.... seriously guys? Who comes up with this stuff?

OK on this, I'm totally ignorant. How? Seems the metal bonding is the easy bit, but what sticks to both the bare metal _and_ the powder coat nearby?

Not sure what you are saying, but I've touched up powdercoat more times than I can count over the years with regular automotive touch up paint and have had zero issues.

OK. I guess I was under the impression that it was tough to get things to bond to powdercoat. Which again...ignorance.

Not at all. Are you talking about touching up small chips and trail damage (scuffs down to the metal)? Liquid touch up paint sticks to powdercoat just fine.

Exactly that—mostly rock rash. Occasionally I forget just how big my minivan is

well...
some folks criticized weld quality from a batch that came through a recent group buy. Some weren't as happy with the presented weld quality vs. the pride demonstrated on the website. There were botches in packaging and shipping, BUT at the group buy savings it's certainly hard to argue the value. I'd argue weld looks were not weld quality/strength issues but more cosmetic and some people got two right sides or fine threads for a coarse thread bolt, etc... MT rectifies quickly and is great with customer service and support. Idid notice, however that they stopped conversing and participating in that last group buy thread once the sale was over...
so, meh... just experiences, which may vary.

The welds looked very good on mine. Just a note.

Hah! Jason you thought I was pinned under a truck or something. All good. Went out to Coal Miner Cruiser Classic in PA, man the East Coast guys put on a great event. Good stuff. Hope to get back out there again. Fun hanging out with Lance from Ironpig. Cool seeing Cam and meeiting a bunch of other East Coast guys.

Working on a few things for the hundos....

Ya when I took off the running boards, she didn’t notice. SobI think I am safe. 😀

That’s when you lean back, light a nice cigar and say “I love it when a plan comes together”. (For all the kids from the 80’s)
