So, a field guy with my company totalled out one of our 2007 Dodge Sprinter cargo vans. Actually, an F350 tried to drive through it. It is sitting behind our shop right now, and as f'd up as it is, it still starts and runs. I am drooling over the engine, and having dreams at night about that Mercedes 3.0L turbo diesel V6 in my 88 FJ62! I have no idea where to start on something like this. I know it would basically be a Chrysler based swap. Anything is possible I think, with enough $ to do it. I have not found any info on doing a swap like this. I appreciate any input you guys may have.

use the entire drive train as i dont think the mercedes bolt pattern matches any of the bell housings currently on the market. you can always have one made to fit your needs for that motor to mate up with your choice of trans for the right $ amount. grab the ecu and engine harness and your pretty much set really.

i personally think it would make the swap just that much easier being able to look and see how they had things run if you were able to get the whole van.

go for it.

If you can get the whole van, I'd say go for it!

As moneypit said, buy the wreck, raid it for loom, ecu, engine etc and make the transfer case fit afterwards. Could be a nice setup. Where is the torque available from? If its a new euro style unit you may need to regear to compensate for the cam characteristics in the MBenz engine.
