Well Dan, I reckon this “ain’t the first time you been throwed”. I certainly don’t figure you for the type of fella that just sits in the dust afterwards. That ole Mule of mine has spit the bit more times than I can count. Even at their finest, these old machines are like a bipolar girl friend. When they’re “on” you’re like a mule eaten briars, just grinning ear to ear. When they’re “off”, @##$&#, stooopid, €£¥[<\ %%@$@ I’m done, s%@@##$&, Jeep would be better, &@$#%& |§£€\, Prius, @#$%&@$ }{[€§…<!<, never again…

Looks like you have a Posse forming up as I type. He//, I’m half tempted to jump on a plane and head your way just to make sure that cooler doesn’t malfunction. 😉 Beverage modulation is an art and not to be trifled with.

So, keep that chin off the curb, you got folks pullen’for ya.

I’m in for a Benjamin and a bag of ice…🍻

Sent some $$. I know Uma needs to be a daily driver so I hope it helps get her back on the road soon.
I’m also grateful to you for the work you’ve done with the TLC pod cast. Youve been helping strengthen this community, so hopefully the strength of the community can shine in this moment of need. -J

For anyone else interested in helping Dan get his 40 on the road - I have a few donations so far. I'd like to send them to Dan this Friday March 1, so if you're still interested, please let me know by then.

Thank you

Believe me when I say that I am EXTREMELY GRATEFULL AND HUMBLED by all of the outpouring of support and encouragement that everyone has shared.

This week I think that I am going to start assessing the damage and getting the engine ready to come out. This much I do know that the oil pan and head are going to come off.

Do we have a date yet for a Black Panther party in Tucson?

Oh yeah, Dan, I have an OEM engine gasket kit to contribute. 👍
Let’s go!

Let’s go!
Getting the motor out is no big deal on my own. getting it back in and running it is where I might need help.

I know I said that she was semi permanently grounded. But the other day going to pick up pizza for the family I saw a charcoal grey 40 and I wanted to get her driving again so today was a productive one. I got the front clip off, the radiator out. The header and the intake off, the oil pan off. So I was able to easily see (sort of) the cylinder walls

I don't think that was like that before. As of right now I am going to say spun a bearing. However that is not my official prognosis. The cylinder walls look to be decent but I still want to hone them

They are still smooth but I want to do this right. The cam is probably going to need to be replaced as there is pitting on #1 exhaust. I still want to pull the head and lap the valves and do rings

And yes the distributor and the oil pump weren't completely mated.

I couldn't get a picture of cylinders 3&4 and they were both on a downward stroke at the time of death

I’m a mere mortal, parking a dizzy makes me nervous to the point of distraction. When I did the swap, I had two witnesses. One to verify and one to tell the story if it went south. In the hallowed halls of MUD I’m sure it’s just a “routine operation” but so is quadruple bypass surgery if you practice enough.

Glad you’re back in the saddle…Fight the good fight.

The schizzle in the oil pan looks like the same fragments when my bearing was about to spin.

Do you think the cam is shot or a machine shop to polish it up or small grind?

I’ve seen people on MUD use Delta Cam too ( mainly for performance grind based on how they will use it). I say this as I don’t know how hard to source a different cam.
