The cylinder walls don't seem too bad and that they can be cleaned up with a ball hone

Based on the damage you've found, is the tentative plan rebuilding the current 2F?

Yes, hone the cylinders replace the pistons bearings and rings and probably crank and cam. Although I might end up using the cam from the F motor, and the cam only because there is pitting on #1 exhaust lobe

So thinking about this tonight. The pistons that are in it are the domed pistons, I don't know if they are the stock size and I can't seem to find my digital caliper. Do I machine the domed pistons with over sized rings or try to do flat pistons, or try to get newish domed pistons.

I am excited tomorrow to take my head into work and put it through the parts washer for a while

I read this one way, then realized you meant something different…

Took some time during lunch to start cleaning, the one on the right I have spent time cleaning the one on the left has yet to be cleaned. Kinda a before and after shot.

I finished taking the block apart and found the culprit the #5 bearing took a dump, and the main bearing between 4&5 spun

Oof.

So what’s your plan for the next step?

I have a new crank coming. I am going to take the new crank, pistons, block and head to get a machine shop verdict. To me I think the cylinders need to be honed the pistons aren't deeply scored, all new bearings and probably rings too

Best of luck to you sir.
You have quite a cheering section and no shortage of folks who are willing to help.

Question of ignorance or you said it and can’t remember Jack- why not have the machine shop clean up old crank?

Number 5 got really hot and started to "blue" I also thought that it would cost st too much to get it properly machined and balanced. I don't know the exact dollar number but I am anticipating it being close to $1,000 and I was able to find a new crank on eBay for $165

So today during break I cleaned up the oil pump. It didn't have any metal on the pick up screen and there was no holes in the screen.

It cleaned up pretty well and the drive slot turns pretty well with out any binding.

although it seems as though someone already tried to rebuild it as the Phillips head screws were rounded.

tomorrow I am probably going to clean up pistons 2&5

Today was eventful during my breaks and for lunch I cleaned and lapped the valves with new valve seals.
IMG_20240321_091154345.jpg

Not terribly bad but not good for sure. Needless to say they looked a lot better after lapping.

And my new crank came in

My youngest saw it in front of the gate and went to pick it up. Even though it was wrapped up very well I told her not to touch it or try to pick it up as it weighs more then her. She thought I was joking 😃.
