My Maytag front load Neptune washer MAH8700AW (approx vintage 2005) refused to start last week & displays a weird code that looks like a capital E with the top bar missing and an E...can't find anything like it in the book. Repair person came out & couldn't figure it out either. Decided to try to repair myself but the service manual also doesn't address the code either. Anyone out there have any clues?
I was a Sears tech but not familiar with this model (cameout after I worked there). For machines with computer boards, sears techs are only techs able to accurately diagnose because info to do so is proprietary and involves taking reading off cable pins to assess. Only sears knows which. I woould unplug to clear. If unable to get beyond error code to start machine, call sears, it's probably a board but there areoften two boards in washers. If occurring after machine starts its probably a component used only in that cycle which failed to complete, ie- inlet water valves to fill, drain to empty or motor to spin/agitate. I would advise getting and keeping warranty the cost of parts usuallyfarexceeds warranty costs and sears is good with warranty repairs.
Not to hijack but for anyone looking to purchase new Washer and Dryer, Don't buy maytag. I purchased a new set a year or so back and it's been trouble. It's real loud and the washer damages clothing. I have had the repair guy out a couple of times, he says the noise is normal and something about the way it spins is what damages the clothes. Nothing he can do, thanks, that will be 55 dollars....

Damn, glad we didn't jump on the Maytags. We're getting a new set of front loaders and almost went with Maytag. Ended up settling on a set of Samsungs based on the size, cost, and the fact that the washer is direct drive. Only problem I have is that the washer isn't high efficiency, but I'm not exactly crying a river over it.
