Enjoying the build and the banter. Love the color.

Tom, thanks for letting me come down and see the gorgeous barn, too cool!
Jeff, thanks for the engine, can't wait till it's done! I was wondering if you got my pm, and if the galley plug fix was done on the 3fe? awesome build, keep it rolling!

PM replied. Hey Drew, sorry not to respond sooner, it's been nuts at work. I'm looking forward to seeing your truck, it's going to be slick. Now you've got me thinking, maybe I should have held onto the motor to do a 2fe on the 40, As you've probably surmised I never could have pulled it off, it's in better hands with you!

Good luck and let me know if I can answer anything else, I'll try digging up some of those receipts.

That stinks you had to cut the shaft, is that because we mated different t-cases together and changed the dimensions?

And I love your location: "Battling Bullwinkle..."

Its required on all the adapter conversions. You must cut it to get the right length on the new spud shaft that goes over the existing output shaft on the 4L60E.

we stabbed the engine in yesterday. it was to get the location of where it will sit. According to AA it should all fall into place with the driveshafts and linkage for the TC. Well that was not the case. With the drivelines hooked up, it is about 6 inches off the TC linkage location. The engine also sits far back against the firewall with the driveshafts connected.
I also had to trim the linkage bracket that came with the adapter too. after the engine was in place I also noticed that our oil pan is sitting way low near the front dif. I'm going to look for a H3 Hummer oilpan off a 5.3. I know they run a shallower oilpan on the 5.3 H3.
heres some pics of what I'm talking about.

heres the clearance on the oil pan and tranny pan too...
In the first phot you can see where the floor boot is for the shifter on the TC in relationship with the linkage about 6 inches off mark. I'll have to customize and fab the linkage to work. argggg.....also need to modify the tranny pan too....arrrgggg......

heres the linkage bracket that needed to be modified too. while I was doing the linkage on the TC We decided to do the 2 low conversion to. Just a matter of cutting the gate.
It did say in the instruction manual from AA that" in most cases the tranny pan may need to be modified"....as well as the linkage bracket..

Now the search begins for a H3 oil pan as well as the oil pickup and screen and dipstick too.

no worries, thanks. I'll be sure to let you know when i'm done...if you want to do a 2fe, theres one for 2500 that just went up on classifieds in SLC...fully rebuilt, all components i think. lucky it went up after i bought your engine:doh:;)

found a H3 hummer pan and pick up....Thank you to the boyz at Proffitts cruisers...

that place was crazy busy trying to get ready for cruise moab.. it was also way cheaper than a dealership and was on hand too. the dealership said 1 week out.
amazingly the new pan is 6 1/4 inches deep vs. the 8 1/2 inches I have now. Ill get some pics up tonite.

Cruiser history, superb restoration work, future memories...I just love a thread like this.

Max, thanks for the depth!

freepowder, a salute to you and your gaggle.

Alaska, I recently transplanted both rear quarters from a doner rig onto my 62...now I'll have to cut into them. First class work, I must visit your playground.

Been quite busy on Bullwinkle over the past few days. As you can tell by the lap in posts.

I finished the cross member, motor mounts, TC linkage, H3 oil pan and pump plus I also hooked the 4L60E tranny to the OEM fj62 shifter. Took some toying around with the old fj62 linkage and the chevy linkage and between the two of them ....... one was born. I modified the tranny pan a bit to clear the ujoint, however I still have a potential rub issue on the front end of the pan under a full flex situation. (problem solved).....A smaller diameter front drive shaft is in the works as you read this.
The transfer case is a split case off a 60 and the linkage ended up just below the original space the fj62 shifter was. I welded in the old hole and reloted the shifter directly across from the tranny shifter. I had to tweek the shifter to avoid having it in the passengers way under 4WD use.
Was able to get the volvo electric fan to fit inside the OEM fj62 fan shroud...still needs a little TLC but I love it. just before sunset today I mounted the radiator, condensor and new tranny cooler. Tomorrow I'm going to plumb the tranny, engine, fuel and heater and cooler lines. Harness and ECM should be here by thursday. I still need to get the exhaust built and pick up a couple of cats and muffler.....o2 sensors too. I'm really hoping to fire it this weekend or early next week. if everything I need really does show up on time.
Anyhoooo.....
On to the pics.
Heres the H3 oil pan compared to the tahoe pan...almost two inches.

Here is some progress shots to get you all caught up from the past few days.....

In the first few you can see the clearance issues with the front drive shaft and the tranny pan.

here some of the cross member. I used the ends of the OEM cross members and notched them to fit the new cross member that bolts to a fj60 H42 tanny mount and that bolts to the advance adapter.

Take notice of the H3 oil pan installed in the 3rd photo. The passenger side of the pan is notched out and works out perfectly for the 3rd to clear during flex and not to mention the shallower profile too.

heres a few on the motor mounts..these are spring perches with bushing and I made the engine plates and arms for the mounts. I also gussetted the mounts with square tube for added strength and less flex. the perches are welded to a 3/8 plate and the plated welded to the frame. 3/4" grade 10 hardware to finish it off.
on to the pics....
first pic is every thing tacked in place. (measure twice, cut once) I pulled the engine after tack and full pen welded these in place.

And a few on the tranny linkage and TC linkage and shifters.

The first one you can see the old existing hole from the H2 - H4 fj62. now sealed off and new placement of the fj60 split case and shifter.

Heres some of the linkage for the chevy tranny to the toyota shifter, I took the 4L60E linkage connector and flipped it 180 and ran it on the top of the tranny instead of the bottom (like its called for )and bypassed the cable drive and tied it to the fj62 hard rod linkage by extending and bending and drilling and tapping and lots of measuring and tack welding with some trial and error and few smoke breaks to boot.
It works great too. I am very pleased with the out come of the tranny shifter. It was actually Max Powerzz wifeies idea to keep the stock OEM shifter in place. Im glad to not see a Lokar shifter in there like everyone else has on their conversions. this is a super custom touch..or not custom...huh? thats confusing, huh?
In the last photo you can see where I joined the toyot end to the chevy end using a joint style system that rotates when pressure is applied. I took the chevy end and drilled out the connecting post and tapped it with a 8mm thread and plit the joint with a bolt and two washers to allow the slip. I capped the end with a lock nut so it stays put.
