Mine is pretty tight, but leaky. I found this nice write-up by Coolerman:

Steering Column Rebuild

But I don't see a rag joint. Same box as a '78? I'm guessing the procedure is pretty similar.

If I need different pictures/instructions, anyone have an equally awesome link?

Are all the seals and bushings available from Toyoda-san? How about in a kit from someone?

Any info on the bushing/bearing that's clanging around at the box-end of my column? I need to fix that too.

Not at all the same. The pre 1973 trucks had a steering gear that was integral with the steering column....reason why there is not a rag joint. :) The steering shaft that the steering wheel attaches to has the worm gear on the end of it; it is all one piece.

If your steering gear is not loose, then replace the input and output seals and call it good.

Pull the steering wheel and column assembly from the truck, remove the bulkhead adapter from the end of the column and see what is rattling around in there.

Will do on both counts. Thanks, and thanks for the other links all.

Lol never mind.... I couldn't find the old seals........ Because the only thing left was the metal ring which was also was so stuck to the box that appeared to be part of it... Lol yuuuup got it figured out... No wonder the thing was leaking everywhere!

@Poser

Old thread but similar question. I am doing a frame off restoration on a 1965 FJ45 with low miles but sitting for a long time. Removed steering box and fluid looks good and is not leaking. Not knowing much about it do I have to disassemble it to replace replace the input and output seals Or fill it with fresh fluid and just leave it alone (how much and what fluid to use)?

Thank you..
