Starting making a replacement for my horn button. Cleaned it up - some clear coat and wet sanding to smooth out the cracks. Nail polish and paint reducer to remove the painted back side.

Smoothon silicone mold and cast in clear resin. About 10 more hours before its dry.

Sweet! Put me on the list for one if it turns out good! ;)

Good luck! I'm anxious to see the result.

Excellent work... :D

This is really cool. Do you have a background in casting or did you just read up and figure it out?

If these go into production, put me down for a couple, haha...

I took a couple online classes... (youtube).

here is the casting after 16 hours. No bubbles!! It is still somewhat pliable at this stage so i wanted to get the fill and vent ports off it and make sure it fits before it fully cures which should take about 36 - 72 hours. At that point I will add the paint to the back side and polish or clear coat the top depending on how it comes out. I need to get some higher grit sand paper though - i only have up to 1500

I'm not going to be making these for anyone just yet. Lots of time involved in making just one and so far so good but I don't know what the end product will look like. The cool part about this is... I could cast this piece out of any color resin. Solid colors - tinted reds or blues... see this video for what I mean. Hell we could add pink glitter if that is your style...

That looks awesome! You could seriously sell these. And I would take one. Just out of curiosity, how does the center part come out? Press fit? I've never had mine apart.

the center part is held on by that inner ring. There are little tabs (mine broke off) on the back but I got it powdercoated anyway and it still stays in and is a pain in the ass to get out.

AWESOME job!

Firstv one came out okay - kind of yellow and i messed up the back when painting it - it took all day to do it because there are 3 different layers. The white, silver, and then another coat of white. The second one i just took out of the mold and it has a lot of tiny bubbles so hopefully the third time does the trick

Sometimes it takes a bit of blue die to avoid the yellow tinge.

I'll have to try that if i can't get it to work. The third one is in the mold right now. I think the first one looked yellow because it was a different silver than the second one. Second one is on the right.

Nice I need one for my 71 model.

Alright so here is my final iteration 3rd on the right. Im very happy with the results. I can't get all the little tiny bubbles out without a vacuum chamber but you can't see them unless your face is two inches from the piece. The final piece is wet sanded, cut, and buffed and it is the correct color and looks great! I will continue to make these until i run out of resin or my mold breaks so probably around 10. Please PM me if you need one.
