Here's where I'm at so far with it:

The good:
* the interfaces is easy to use, laid out really well and works great
* The unit is very responsive, definitely takes full advantage of the CPU & RAM
* All of my favorite apps work so far. Waze, Youtube Music, Pandora, Google Maps, etc...
* The AC controls all work perfectly. I was very surprised actually that it all worked so well
* Installation was very straight forward and fairly easy
* There is a lot of built in options for adjustments
* GPS picks up fast and is very accurate
* Bluetooth phone conversations are clear, sound better than the OEM Lexus system did. You can use either the built in mic, or they also included an auxiliary mic that you can locate wherever you want. I tried both and the person on the other end heard me better with the auxiliary mic. So I am using the auxiliary mic. I'll post pics of where mounted it.
* It reads your speed and RPM that you can have it display. Pretty neat
* It also reads the temperature from the car's outside temp sensor and can display it. That's a nice touch

The bad (but I think mostly fixable):
* The OEM rear/front/side camera don't hook right into the new head units harnesses. I have to figure out which wires they are, splice an RCA connector on there, make sure the OEM camera ECU is getting the power & signals it needs to turn the cameras on and connect them to the new head unit. I think it's doable based on what I've found so far in the wiring diagrams, just have to find time to tackle it. It's odd, because the interface has options to view the cameras, but the harness they include has nowhere for the OEM cameras to plug into. I'm hoping I can get it to work, should have time to tinker with it in a couple weeks.
* The OEM rear flip down monitor doesn't plug into the new head units harnesses. Not sure if this one will work or not. Worst case I may have to ditch the OEM flip down monitor and either remove it completely or replace it with an aftermarket unit that will work with the new head unit.
* The harness on the new headunit has a plug for the OEM radio antenna wires to plug into. It's definitely a Lexus/Toyota plug, but not the same as my radio antenna plugs on my 2009 LX. So maybe other years have a different antenna plug than the 2009? Not sure. But either way its an easy fix with a $10 adapter that I ordered. That should be in next week, easy fix

The unknown:
* It has built in Apple/Android Auto, but I haven't used it yet. I prefer to just turn on my wifi tethering on my phone and use the apps on the head unit itself. But if you like Apple/Android Auto its supposed to work.
* You can add other add-ons to it, like an OBDII bluetooth reader that l ordered to play with. Not sure what use it will be, but I'll report on that once I have time to play with it.

Overall, I think it was a good purchase and am happy with it. With a few little fixes I think it'll be great

A quick road trip from Austin to Dallas last night. I was very surprised by the MPG. I got around 17.5 the first 50 miles or so. And 18.4 after filling up and going another 140 miles in lighter traffic.

My last trip I was getting about 14.8 MPG. The only difference from my last trip is the oil in the truck. I was using Mobil1 0w40 European formula in the last few oil changes. This time I switched to Castrol 0w30 European formula. Truck still runs the same. No noticable difference in performance or anything. But that difference in MPG is crazy. Going to keep an eye on it the next week or so to see how it does.

I was playing with the built-in inclinometer and angle/tilt sensor today. It actually works really well.

This is a very slick setup. The hookup backup and side cameras are deal breakers for me though.

Working on that over the next week to see if its an easy fix.

How's the MPG looking? If all it takes is different oil to get 3+ MPG I think you'll have a lot of people running to get an oil change!

Good question, most of my driving has been stop and go traffic the last week or so. I'll report back on the MPG once i get to take a longer drive.

Great! I picked up a 2010 LX with 105k miles on it about 2 months ago and it's been fantastic, following your thread closely.

I took it to a local dealer after I got it to have it checked out, but didn't know enough at that point to start looking at AHC fluids etc, now just trying to figure out what should be done that they might not have. Have you found any consolidated information on what fluids should be changed and other preventative items? Right now just picking bits and pieces from different threads.

Also, where'd you end up picking up the card key?

Can you re-post a link to the leather dye? The Amazon link is broken now, but using on the door panels would be ideal for me.

Thanks,

Most interesting development.

How does it effect the stereo. I would assume based on the need to take out the audio head unit that the "pre/pro" functions are lost? While the amp section is maintained? Loss of CD/DVD obviously, but I'm sure supplanted by high quality streaming options. Is it still 5.1 surround?

I liked the classy look of the factory audio headunit controls. Aesthetically, I think this is a downgrade in respects to the buttons on the side of the screen, and the loss of the audio headunit. But then again, I could totally get into this as it does bring a new level of functionality.

Looks much better than the install I saw in China.

The "Chinese" version cameras did work. While driving when other cars, people, stuff got close to the bumper sensors, the camera(s) came on. As they drive very "offensively" over there, the camera was working overtime.

Thanks,
It looks like they relisted it. Here's the new link. It's the "cashmere" color:

I got the keycard fob on eBay. There's lots of them listed for sale

Isn't the factory amp under the passenger seat? I think that is retained. The factory optical audio cable connects right into this unit. Or if you want to use aftermarket amplifiers it comes with a connector that allows output to an amp with FR/FL/RR/RL/Sub RCA outputs.

Almost done with the camera setup. Just got off of the phone with Phoenix Android Auto support. They were very helpful and great to deal with. I'm pleasantly surprised how great their support is. I should have a full write-up for you guys hopefully by the weekend.

That was an excellent video and it answered almost every one of my questions! Your effort on the Tesla headunit deserves so much more attention. I had recalled someone had installed this but took awhile to find this thread as it's a bit buried. Perhaps it may deserve its own thread?

My aftermarket BT adapter is getting flakey and I really want to do this. Seems like you've been thoroughly happy with this once you worked through some of the details?

I see there's now Android 9.0 units coming out. Wonder if it'll make any difference.

Is surround sound maintained? One of the things I love most about the stock system is enjoying the kids movies through their soundtrack. I score these in my head based on their soundtracks. :)

Any other updated thoughts?

I might be watching for a black friday sale.

I may have jumped the gun and bought a used one on eBay with the intent to reprogram; however, as I'm digging into details I'm reading that I have to wipe all the remotes, and then reseed either via a sketchy website or take it to a dealer... Was yours new or used? What's you do for the key?

Any thoughts on mileage now that it's been awhile?
