Perfect, thanks for the clarification. I'll check mine tonight to see if one is installed, but from the not great picture i took of it, i'd say there isn't one. The globe in the video does not appear to have one on it either. I can see now in your 2nd picture that you can see it installed below the o-ring.

Just wanted to give a hat tip to everyone here, followed the video after ordering the backup washers. Night and day difference. After adding a winch I had noticed the ride quality was a lot worse, but now it's back to cloud status.

Anyone know what happened to the video?

I followed the video but missed the step about the backup washer and the globes are now installed without them. Do you think there will be a problem if I don't take them down a place a washer there?

I don't know it's purpose exactly, but my assumption is that it has one or Toyota wouldn't bother. Maybe let it run for a bit and if you get signs of air in the system you know what the root cause is likely to be?

Have you charged system?

Not sure what you mean, but I have started everything up and I have done everything except for bleeding the system. So far the impression is that it rides much smoother, even when its not been bled.

My thought was that maybe they have changed some sort of patent on the o ring which makes the washer obsolete. It they can put one there, they can absolutely put the other one as well. Or at least supply them in the same package. In my mind the washer is for pressure with heat (diffs, enigne washer plug, transfercase etc) and orings are for cold liquids (gas filters, oilfilters etc).

Any suggestions on how I can notice air in the system? Harsher ride or just to bleed them in a couple of weeks to see the result?

@grinchy

with the washer (4915660030) was there four in one package? Or do we have to order four?
I got at local Lexus parts counter. Sorry I don't remember one way or the other how they were packaged.
I do remember they were like $5 each :bang:

You order 4.

My thoughts on why it is in place. After googling backup washers as they pertain to hydraulics/o-rings. I found one source that says that the purpose of the backup washer is to give an even flat surface to press an o-ring into place where a fitting is screwed together.

Elbows and tees require a specific orientation and that’s where the adjustable ORB comes in. Adjustable ORBs are screwed into the mating component until the proper orientation is acquired, then a locknut is tightened forcing a backup washer onto the O-ring thus forming the leak-tight seal. There are some special considerations for installing ORB fittings as opposed to metal face types.

So according to this, I just have to bite the bullet and install the washers... I still believe in the argumentation I made above.

Looks like the o ring backup is only supposed to be on 2008-2010 lx570’s.

Anyone know why 2011-2021 it’s not a part listed as being approriate?

I would verify that with my VIN at the dealer.
Dealer says the backup o ring now comes on the accumulator, no need to add it.

Also, I didn’t realize this, but the rear accumulator has a different part number from the front…maybe the rear has more dampening for the extra load expected back there?

Makes me wonder whether putting rear ones on the front would be an “upgrade” for extra weight.

fyi, the accumulators ordered from jdm-planets (also on ebay) do not have the back up washers included.

I think (from memory) @baktasht installed his accumulators without the back up washers.

Specs on the two different accumulators:

No. 1 Gas ChamberFrontRear
Sealed Gas NitrogenNitrogen
Gas Chamber Volume cc (cu in.) 400 (24.4) 400 (24.4)
Sealed Gas Pressure MPa (kgf/cm2, psi) 2.26 (23, 328)1.90 (19, 276)

The parts diagrams say the backup washer comes with the accumulator, but i know the ones coming direct from Japan do not have it. Maybe if you got it from Toyota it does.

My truck is a 2009 LX570. I just purchased the accumulators. and installed them as they came packaged. I did not purchase or install any additional washers or o-rings apart from what came on them. If you look at the video, you can see how they came. It had the o-ring already installed right behind the threads, and nothing else. It's been a couple years now and I have not had any leaks or problems.

Has anyone else successfully installed without the backup washers? I'm trying to order the washers but they appear to be backordered with no ETA for restock. Based on baktashts reply I wonder if it's ok just to proceed without them
