I need to figure out my illumination problem and connect cameras.

Yes I am using the RCA pre-amp output and it has resolved the hiss. Pioneer sells a $20 tuning mic that I used. You plug that into the front of the unit and then run the Auto-equalizer function.

Dan, did you ever figure these out?
1) Did not use.
2) Did not use.
3) Did this and it works fine.
4) No resolution as of now.
I've a few videos on youtube showing how i set up my system using the factory amp at first. then i decided to go with an all new setup with new amp under passenger seat using the existing mounts. Hope this helps some people.
Great write up Sk8salomon, I just installed a pioneer x4800bt in my 99 470 along with my cobra CB, everything works great. I have seen a few questions on here about the factory connections, I kept all my stock speakers/amp and subs and it sounds really good (way better than stock) so I figure I will outline the connections as I made/understand them. I will not list speaker wires for brevity but for speakers I only had to connect the eight wires (left/right/front/back/+/-) and did nothing funny (bypass etc.) with amp or sub. I had the 22 pin connector so no available harness, soldering in the car wasn't too bad.....when you get buddies to do it, or lacking that crimp the heck out of it.
Lexus -> aftermarket deck
1) +b (constant power) -> 12v constant
2) +b2 (constant power) -> tape off/leave in plug
4) illumination -> leave in plug (my deck did not have illumination wire, some do)
5) antenna -> power antenna
10) acc + (accessory power) AND 14) amplifier -> 12v ignition power
11) ground -> ground (or actually ground it)
14) amplifier - see 10
15) mute -> leave in plug
16) beep -> leave in plug
For my CB I grabbed power from one of the 12v cig lighters/ports in the lower portion of the dash. I will try and get picks soon, thinking about making a custom bezel or getting the knock off, not into spending 120 on that. I ran my blue tooth mic to just behind the steering wheel, looks very clean.

This is great info - thanks for sharing! I for the first time feel like I know what I want to do with my '98 Lexus stereo!
Forgot to ask though - what about the hiss issue others have reported when using an aftermarket stereo with the stock amp?
I have no hiss/sound issues, not sure if that is due to the specific deck I chose, good luck, or.... I was really concerned about that too, and just prepared for the install to become a bit of a process were that to happen. I also wonder if a lot of the amp issues are lc100 specific vs. Lx470. Reading RobReds article on TLC FAQ he only mentions bypassing amp connections on the land cruiser and not Lexus, led me to hope they may be slightly different systems. I may have read that wrong but it worked for me.

I recently had an AVH-4200NEX installed in my 2000 LC. The installer chose to bypass the factory amp and subwoofer and instead used the Pioneer amp in the head unit. Im not sure if this was the best decision or not, but it sounds pretty good.
The one problem that I am having is that the retractible antenna goes up everytime the head unit is on, regardless if its sirius, pandora, etc or just the radio. Its annoying since I dont use the actual radio anymore.
The installer said this is just how the head unit is made and it was the only way to set it up.
Is there an easy way to just keep the antenna in the down position? Like pull a fuse or disconnect a power cable?

Mine has a similar issue, though it only goes up about two inches and then stops. From there I can use the manual control to either raise or lower it depending if I think I need it. Mostly I use the Bluetooth and have no need to raise and am not bothered to lower it an inch or two. Reading the 450 forums I saw several posts suggesting not to hook up the antenna aftermarket control (blue) to the power antenna cable on the LX as this could cause problems. You could try disconnecting these wires and see how it goes, if that is how they ran it.

Following up on a install I helped a buddy with last night, and have some issues, details:
-2000 Lexus LX470
-Nakamichi Premium audio w/ factory amp under front pass. seat
-Installed an Alpine head unit CDE-W265BT

We followed the wiring schematic outlined in the orginal post of this thread, including jumping pins 10 & 14 to the red keyed power on wire on the new Alpine harness. We've triple checked our hookups and they match exactly.
Here's what we're experiencing, the system works but is crazy loud. Like reaches max comfortable volume before distorting at level 3 or 4 of 35 levels on the Alpine deck.
I've read about the double amplification effect that can be witnessed if using the internal amp of the aftermarket head unit, PLUS the factory Nak amp, I assume this is what we're experiencing.
I located the Alpine setting to disable the internal amp, as some members have done with other units, however, when I disable the internal Alpine amp, we no longer here any sound at any volume (assumed voltage mismatch or too low for Nak amp).
My question is, I've read about using RCA's on the Alpine pre-amps and splicing into speaker leads on the factory harness respectively, but that some members get a audible hiss when going this route due to a mismatch in line voltage.
The other option I've seen is bypassing the factory amplifier, but that this involves seat removal (no big deal) and is somewhat irreversible? And loses factory sub function? Would love some further clarification on this.
Lastly, I'm confused as why the OP did not experience the same symptoms we are, when we followed the step by step verbatim. (very appreciative of the detailed walkthrough however!) Is there that much a difference between various aftermarket HUs? If we returned the Alpine and went with same deck as OP would we have a functioning factory amp at acceptable volumes w/o hissing?

Don't know all the answers, but maybe some ideas.
Disabling internal amp means nothing comes out of the alpine speaker wires - signal only goes out the RCA wiring. SO that was not what you wanted, but is as designed.
When I went to a Pioneer head unit I just ran the speaker wire from the pioneer to the speaker outputs of the amp and disconnected any connectors into the amp. Pretty sure I had to bridge some power wires at the amp (if you use the factory wiring into the head unit. Did lose the subwoofer, but then again the factory unit is so anemic it didn't much matter.
Finally got frustrated enough that I switched to a Kenwood head unit (has a different power antenna wire from the remote amp turn on wire). Also went with a Clarion 5-channel marine grade amp (electronics under a seat seems kind of a dumb thing to do to me). Ran new power and ground wires - all is well. Subwoofer is back but I have a shallow mount 10" I'm planning to install during one of my periods with copious spare time.

I had poor sound/hiss that was corrected once I used the HU's RCA's. I wired RCA's to the speaker wires coming from the NK amp and connected those to those HU's RCA's.
not sure if anyone has see this but it really is very helpful and has lot of good information on head unit install as well as sound deadening
Hello, how did you remove the stock cigarette light to install the USB/HDMI ? ThanksInvesting in a head unit that brings all of the modern convenience of google maps, great bluetooth, pandora/spotify and a back up camera has made my truck so much more enjoyable on a day to day basis. Not to mention the fidelity is as good as high end headphones. We dynamated the hood, firewall and doors which has made the overall ride that much quiter and tight.
you have to take apart the back of those cig ports, then push the metal sleeve through from the back, then the black plastic plug itself will release from the front.
I have my gps antenna in the front passnger side dash board. If you want to test it, it might work fine behind the glove box. I didn't test.
