Just checked my 98 LX and pulled my 2 filters out. They were quite dirty.

I decided to just blow them out with compressed air. Put on safety glasses and opened up the blowgun. A few minutes later I could see light through them again. The filter is quite durable.

Once I felt they were clean or should I say cleaner I put them back in.

I noticed the high speed had more volume of air blowing through. I may order new ones. But for now they are cleaner and I have better airflow.

Who knew I had them until I read the FAQ??

Just wondering how many miles you had on your LX since you last changed the cabin filters??? Do you drive on many dusty roads?

My LX had 201,000km on it when I purchased it in October 2008. It now has 216,000km. I can't say when they were changed out last.

They were quite dark with dirt. After the compressed air treatment you can see light through them. I tried to put a hole through the media. It seems quite durable.

The volume of air on high speed setting is more. There was a difference.

I got 04 LC and it does not seem to have cabin air filter. Is this correct or is it me not seeing the obvious. I can post pictures if this is of interest to the group

I finally got around to pulling off the glove box on my 98 (build date was May, 1998) and the filter holders are there, no filters ever installed. It was not all that dirty in there though. Making my own won't bother me since it can't let anymore dust by than I have had for the last 11 years with no filters. Still, I'll see what the dealer wants - as soon as I convince him that the car actually accepts them.

There were 2 in the box, neatly sealed in a plastic bag. Total price was $12.22.

These came to me from maximumautoparts.com but individually wrapped. They are no longer so cheap. Two was about $30. I thought based on others' experiences that I'd be left with a pair for the future.

My 1999 accepts them, though the seal, as others reported, is likely ineffective.

so after reading all the above post, I still do not have a definite answer on my 03LC, does it have this door or not for cabin filter, I remember that I replaced my 01 LX, Any inputs would be appreciated.

You'll just have to take a look. I remember one that had no provisions for filters, but it was obvious once you see it.

so lazy to do it, but i guess that's the only way.

Man, this is SUUUUUUUCH an easy job. It'll take you, literally, 45 seconds to determine if you have filters or not. If you do, it'll take you another 5 minutes to change them (provided you don't have a lot of "canister trash" that needs to be vacuumed out.......)

After every trip through dustville; like the 2-week bc Utah trip we just did. Due to the number of trips the past year I pull mine 3-4 times per season. I have several pairs of them...I wash them thoroughly in mild detergent and I've not had any of them fall apart yet.

I also, due to living and using this rig in dust country, do the A/C evap/cowl/vent flush twice per year. Alot better than getting a face-full of dust.

Okay, I am confirmed that in my 03 LC, I do not have the tab to open the filter space. It looks like they seal that space, if somehow we can order that part from lexus and cut out the sealed plate, we should be able to insert the ac cabin filter in there and close it.

anyone added filters to 03 up?

Has anyone added the cabin air filters to the 2003+ LC yet? Looks like you could cut out an opening and get or make the cover. I just wonder if they are the same inside. For those that have these openings already, is there anything that can be damaged behind where you would cut the hole out? Anyone have photos with door off filters out? thanks

haha! i too will swear my lc had them standard, only to have the dealer tell me no such thing on LC...BS! never seen the thread till today, went and checked, and indeed my 00' LC has a door with a big empty spot behind it.....F***er's!

-to the previous poster...there are pics with the door off, just cant remember which page.

-im pretty sure this thread should somehow be placed near the "movies that made you have a manly cry" thread in chat. mamby pamby land...i think so.

-im gonna see how much nicotine these will hold!

The filters were quite dirty on my 00 LX and they were Denso's so I imagine they were originals. Got a pair of NPN filters for $25 shipped on Amazon. Filters were a snugger fit than I expected so it took a bit of pressure to get the top one in but it was fine.
