Ok so I need to replace my alternator. I understand that I could rebuild the one that I have or just drop the money and get a replacement. While Im at it it Im going to replace the belts as well since they are pretty old too. While I am looking to go OEM, 80a, I understand that there is a 100a OEM as well.

Questions:
I am NOT running an 2nd battery YET and Im only running some basic peripherals at the moment, a Ham radio, upgraded head unit etc. I am planning on running a second battery though in the near future and running some wire to the rear for tools and refrigerator, etc.
1. Would it be beneficial to run a higher amp Alternator? In the current setup or with a second battery and more peripherals?
2. What is the 100a part number? Can't seem to find it. And does it require a new mounting bracket?
3. In the current setup would a 100a alternator fry anything or cause any risk?

Thanks Everyone!
J

The 100A unit requires a bracket to fit read this thread lots of good info. I don’t see any need to go crazy. I ram a dual battery set up with fridge and gmrs radio and never had any issues.

i really like the landtank alternator upgrade, i installed one last summer and have had awesome charging and quiet belts ever since. its a nice kit and i plan to buy 2 more for my other rigs in the future.

Another option is the J2 Fab. Mine's been great!

Damn. Doing that instead of the DVS/Sequoia option is a no brainer. I see they list idle amperage output for them; does anyone know what the idle amperage output of the stock alternator is?

*edit- There's also this drop-in option if 120A is all you need...

Bear in mind you'll need to modify the stock bracket some to make the J2 work. It's not bad at all, but it's not 100% direct fit.
