Low Range Gears - FZJ-80

After 40 miles of low range and 100 high range I drained the oil. With clearance being very tight by the looks of the oil the fit is perfect. I expected a top notch product form Marlin Crawlers and they lived up to there solid reputation of building great stuff.

No funny or strange noises from transfercase. Shifting into low range feels the same as before the install. The only differance from stock is the feel of lower gears. Without question there is a noticable differance from just putting the LC in gear after the install.

The installation guide could be better IMO. I'm guessing a MUD guy will do install with better documentation.

Total install time for me was ~10-11 hour that includes ~3-31/2 hours of 2 man press work. There are a few challenges with the install and press work so be prepared accordingly.

Update - I have been out several times with the new setup and if you are on the fence get off you will not be disappointed.

Your 80 moves much easier with more control.
No more gear whine when in low range. Now sometime I forget Im in low range due to no more whine until I look down and see 3500+rpm:eek:

2nd gear starts is now the norm, 1-2 shifts torques the whole body.

Have replaced a couple of motor mounts, they are getting some age on them.:meh: Haven't done one on a rig with the gears,, yet.

Sorry about the timing Chris.

Business is business. No apology necessary.

You won't catch me in OKC at midnight for love nor money.

I'll make sure to push the wife to acquire some hot friends, to sweeten the pot for the next journey to the area. See if maybe a teacher with a fetish for high school boys is available.

Is there any known reinforcements to torque induced fatigue? (An odd question, considering the platform, but I'm also experiencing torque induced body roll with the 5.29s that I hope to correct with Radflo's).

I know several have had issues with on the FJC (SCs and Atlas') but most have relied upon local fabricators to rework the mounts, an option I don't have locally.

Agreed.

The CDL and 7 pin has made a 100% difference in trail ability, as well.

I prefer unpluging the low range switch from the tcase and get OD in low range

The ~25% speed increase is needed with this mod. Change in shift points become :meh: with 2nd gear starts.

Pardon my ignorance, but are you saying that OD isn't possible without unplugging at TC?

I was happy with whatever tallest gear was afforded currently, but if improve able......

It's a hit & miss with some 80s. I have OD in 4Low but some don't. Not sure why that is.
