The low pressure hose on my '99 is leaking at the reservoir and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, it isn't sold separately and comes as the high and low lines plus the associated metal piping all in one neat (and expensive) assembly.
I'd like to simply cut off the leaking part and graft on a new piece of similar sized hose, but have discovered that there is a swelling to the end where it slides over the reservoir tube, so a straight piece of rubber tube won't fit the rest of the hose tube ad still go over the reservoir pipe. I'm stymied.
Q: Has anybody else come across this problem? Is there a "cheap" fix. The assembly price is around $400 at my local dealership.
Thanks in advance.
Ned

Thanks Medtro- I'm heading to NAPA in Chandler tomorrow! Guess that it's just a force fir over the reservoir tube?

I bought a low line from rockauto.... like $30? I ended up not using it. I try to keep everything toyota on my vehicle, but low pressure line seems low risk for the difference in price for OEM.

"Are they open tomorrow?"

Probably not- I'll go Friday and be certain to get a Gates hose. Thanks. Ned

I replaced all low pressure power steering hoses, including the return hose to the reservoir, on a 1999 LX470 with bulk 3/8" ATF hose. The suction hose is 5/8", I used bulk hose for that too.

Exactly! I just did mine a few weeks ago. I used bulk Gates 3/8" and 5/8" transmission oil cooler hose.(not regular coolant hose) Get about 30" of each and cut to length needed. I think the hoses plus a bottle of Valvoline Max Life ATF fluid and new clamps cost me less than $30.

Make sure to remove and clean your reservoir (screen in bottom) before attaching new hoses. The 3/8 transmission cooler aftermarket hose will fit so tight future removal will be very difficult. Steering Flush & Cleaning

Coolant leak at water inlet and.. post #26

If budget has room, it's nice to use OEM for the suction hose (large hose) along with your old OEM clamps.

How did you guys get the old hose off the bottom on the return without damaging the steel bend? Just split with a razor and cut/pill? MIne is on there really tight.
