Hi everyone,

So my sister has a 2000 LC, she has a power steering fluid leak and we believe it’s the high pressure line after having multiple mechanics inspect it. Although my dad doesn’t want to have someone else do it and instead replace it himself. Does anyone know how to go about it like a step by step and has prior experience on how to change both lines?

These are very easy to change. Banjo bolts and crush washers on both ends, then bleed the power steering system. Probably a good time to flush the system with new ATF. There are good threads on here for bleeding and flushing.

I agree with Bisho, it shouldnt be a difficult job, but access is difficult. I need to do this on my 98, and i am debating on getting the "Sunsong" from Rockauto vs. the OEM which is 5x more expensive

I used the Sunsong, and I know several others that have as well with no issue.

I've seen good reviews on the sunsong. Another option is to take the assembly to a hydraulic hose shop and they can swap in new hose. Not sure if it's worth the trouble tho given the cost of the sunsong unit

Did you use the return and high pressure hose assembly?

I only replaced the high pressure hose. The low pressure hose is a hard line with standard hose connecting it to the reservoir, and I had previously replaced the rubber hose.

The Rein appears to be the OEM supplied hose. I put one on my son's 2000 LX470; I can't tell the difference between the Rein and the one we took off. It wouldn't be worth saving $25 to me.

Easy peasy, just be careful of the vacuum valve on the pump. Lose that and you'll lose engine control. Stupid design.

I'm not sure where you're seeing this is the OEM supplier. Not saying there is anything wrong with it, but its not OEM.

I didn't say it was advertised that way. I said I couldn't tell the difference between the parts.

Buy whatever you want.

since accessing it is difficult, what do you recommend that we remove temporarily so that we can access the lines easier?

IIRC, you only need to remove the front skid plate. It’s a tad tricky to get the steering rack end on and off because you’re under the truck and it’s hard to see, but that’s all make sure you hand thread the banjo bolt with the copper crush washers before you get a wrench on there, you don’t want to cross thread and wreck the rack.
