I don't know what the price is but it would have to be reeeeeaaal low for me to haul that one home. It needs a tub and with that much rust you'd better look real carefully at the frame. The frame above the rear shackles is a good starting point. If it ends up needing a tub and a frame you would be better off passing...or if the price is <$1k maybe buy it for parts and look for another one to drive.

3 times that. Keep looking. When we talked via text i did not envision that much body work. You've waited this long. Keep looking

Good call on the pass. Sometimes you've gotta drive a bit and come home empty. It'll help you appreciate the right one when it comes along.

I think you made the right call! John is 100% correct- I ve thought often about the first few I passed on...and am darn glad I did!

I agree, passing on that one is probably a good idea. I like metal work and that was bit much for me.

Brysen,

This one looks like a good, solid, low miles unmolested 'Cruiser right in your price range. I'd offer considerably less if you don't get to hear it run. If it is as the seller says and it will run okay with just a carb rebuild and exhaust work it would be a good find. Carb rebuild kit is cheap enough ($60 or so). I'll be glad to help you rebuild it. Maybe somebody will lend you a carb to take with you to slap on just to hear it run. Swapping carbs takes 10 minutes. Looks like you might need to bring a battery too.

I'll post this one again because it seems to be decent for the price:

This is a good point - the buyer is taking all the risk. The seller could pay to get it running and charge more. Most people want to buy a running truck so why wouldn't the seller do it? There's all kinds of reasons. You have to hope it's because he's lazy. Great negotiation point. Truck looks nice - must be southern!

The fact it has newer tires is a good sign though.

Yeah the proof is in the pudding....i'd never pay near that much for a cruiser in that condition and not running.

When you have a vehicle that isn't running you pretty much have to ear mark expenses for a completely new motor in this case. Unless you yourself are an expert and can say with certainty all it needs is a new carb then whittle that price way down.

a new troll hole carb is about $200 if the seller wanted to sell it he could get it and throw it on.

Dave thanks for posting these. The first white one has been flagged for removal (maybe something fishy is going on there?) and it looked pretty crusty so I was a little hesitant to begin with. The other red 72 looks great! I'm gonna look into it and contact the owner. Me and my dad are possibly going to look at another one very soon and could stop to look at this one on the way.

I'm about a week late on this post too, but me, my dad, and Johnvee (thanks again for coming along) went and checked out the 76 in east bend last Sunday. Ran and drove well. Was a little too "toasty" for us, and there were some other factors that played a role. Solid 40, but not the one for us, so we're still on the hunt.

I know this is a stupid question, but there are people in the club that can weld right? What's a ballpark figure of what it would cost to weld in new quarter panels on a 40? Could some of y'all do it for cheaper than say a body shop or somewhere like that? How much would that be (hypothetically speaking of course)? I know what it costs for the panels themselves and the freight. Just wondering if someone can or would be willing to do it for me if I needed it done. Let me know. Thanks.

Good question as it is always good to have repair or replacement costs in your head when looking at rigs. You would be better off on that one PM'ing Darin or Stan directly or calling them

Problem for me for quoting prices is you never know what you are going to find hidden behind / besides / around it to get to good metal. That type of stuff myself i just have to go by the hour, but that is just me.

Brysen,

It is hard to impossible to put a firm number on replacing the pannels. The issue is that you simply do not know what you are going to run in to and what shape the surrounding metal (that the panels weld to) is in. My shop rate is $60 an hour and that covers labor and consumables (welding wire, gas, cut off wheels etc) I could give you a ballpark idea after seeing the rig in person.

^^ I ran into that truck about 2 years ago. The guy had just gotten it. I seem to remember seeing for sale again within the year. Other than the obvious changes, it was in pretty good shape if I remember right. Needs to have a hard top and doors at that price.
