Hey team, looking to get a toolkit for my BJ70. It came with absolutely nothing, and I'm just inviting a puncture. Wouldn't mind the factory kit, but people ask astronomical prices for them, particularly the screw jack. Happy to make substitutes if there's a quality improvement to be had. I don't want to leave a hydraulic bottle jack in there unused and unattended for reliability reasons.

Wondering if the screw jack for a HiAce or Hilux is suitable? Can get them quite cheap. My truck has a 2 inch lift, rolling on 33s. Just need to go up enough to change a tyre.

Also, what else do people keep in their trucks? I go nowhere without a multimeter, spare fuses and a torch!

Cheers

Sockets: 8/10/12/14/17/19/21/22/24/27

Wrenches: 8/10/12/14/17/19/21

Pliers/a crescent wrench/54mm hub socket/3-prong rear axle hub socket if you have a FF rear axle.

Snap ring pliers/vice grips/E12 socket if you have upgraded knuckle studs (90126-12010).

3/8 drive ratchet/. 1/2 breaker bar/ BFH/ bailing wire/ electrical tape/ snips/

And a bunch of other shĩt based on use experience and driving style. Every single tool kit for every different driver of a Land Cruiser is inherently going to be based on that person driving their truck.

Nothing more; nothing less.

A Hilux jack and a block of wood should be fine. I've used a Toyota Tacoma jack plenty of times on my 75 Series. Other tools as mentioned above.

I did end up picking up a Hiace jack and took kit. It was substantially cheaper than the equivalent LandCruiser bits. Jack goes more than high enough, even on my 33 inch tyres and with a 2 inch lift. Doesn't quite fit in the factory storage slot due to a rib on the jack body, but I might just cut a small notch in the storage bracket to accommodate.

Hello,

Your jack holder may be either misplaced or missing.

The jack should go horizontally on its holder. Yours appears to be vertically stored.

Check your holder.

Wow, nailed it with minimalism. I have to concede to new generation Milwaukee 12V 3/8” ratchet.
Belt adjustment bolts, any long thread items are dealt with a bit more economically time wise.
I had to laugh at myself I thought you’d missed vice grips, but there they were.
I carry 2 Toyota screw jacks. A few more tools that are redundant but for other scenarios

This is what it looks like, sans jack. Sure that it goes horizontally? Can't see any obvious way that it would. The bracket with the winged bolt is fixed in place.

And this is the singular bit of plastic that was stored in there. Need to go through Partsouq and try work out where it lives, but open to suggestions!

Hello,

Your jack holder is not from a 70 Series truck.

Regarding the bit of plastic, it looks like it broke off from something some time ago.

And yes, the jack goes horizontally.

I think the holder's part number is 58709-60010.

This fella with a BJ73 has the identical upside down jack holder. Maybe a Japanese thing?

Hello,

Quite likely it is.

Chances are it is inspired by late model 40 Series, which had a bracket to hold the jack vertically.

There is a picture on that thread that shows the way the jack is placed.

Snap ring pliers

When shopping online look for "horseshoe" style snapring pliers. Like these.

And a bunch of other shĩt based on use experience and driving style. Every single tool kit for every different driver of a Land Cruiser is inherently going to be based on that person driving their truck.

I'd also add a brass drift (for freeing cone washers), a mechanics pick, and a magnet on a stick for picking up bolts that inevitably leap from your grip and hide on top of a skid plate or under a motor mount.

I'd add at least one light, preferably two. My tastes would lean toward the ones that have a magnetic base so you can stick it to something while you work.
