Hi all, found this 2004 LC100 in green for sale out of Denver area. I’m not sure if this is the proper place to post, but I’m highly interested in this rig for daily commute/weekend warrior. Carfax has a long history of proper care as well as recent(in the last year/10k Miles) items knocked off the checklist of maintenance. My only worry is it’s early life in Vermont. Rust is an issue up there. I’ve emailed them asking for pics of undercarriage. Any 100 owners have any tips or advice regarding items not done? New radiator was installed so I’m not too worried about milkshake issue.

If anyone has insight please chime in. Price seems fair.

that truck lived its entire life in VT and PA... Only 1 year in CO.. hells no.. not touching that.

Google that VIN. You'll find it in its previous form, pre bumper, and pre lift.. wonder why the PO decided to get rid of it so soon.

Good point. Thanks!

I can take a look at this in person for you next weekend if they don't get you pics and it's still there and you're still interested. I'll be up that way.

Being that I’m located in Austin, that would be greatly appreciated!

I may end up passing on it. I asked for a few photos, he only sent one with “Here is a photo of the 04 Toyota frame, the gas tank skid plate is rusted the worst
the rest has some surface rust.”

I zoomed in on what looks like severe rot. One could probably kick at a few rusty spots and knock some of that clean off the chassis.

Looks like the frame has been coated too. NO telling what is underneath.

Finally got him to send more photos. Looks rough. Skids will have to be replaced, not a big deal, but his claims of “surface rust” on frame seem to be more severe than stated.

I am in the same boat, looking for an '04 LC, ideally one that has spent it's life in Colorado or the Southwest. I looked at this particular LC last Thursday, and loved it until I looked underneath. The body is in great shape for it's age, with minimal dings and minor surface rust in not obvious places. The only minor rust I found on the body was inside the top rear hatch and under the front grill where the body meets the Slee bumper. The inside was in very good condition for it's age. The leather is all in great shape and the front and middle row both have Weathertech floor mats. I didn't see any carpet staining, other than some very minor areas in the rear cargo area. It is missing the 3rd row seats. I would guess based on the Slee build that the PO had drawers, which they likely sold or moved to another vehicle.

The undercarriage made me sad after the condition of the rest of the vehicle. You are right in that the gas tank skid is the worst, and looks like its about to rot clean through. There is surface rust on the frame and drive shaft components. It's hard to judge the extent of it without taking a wire wheel to it. Places of the frame do appear to have been coated, but based on the lumpy textured surface it's hard to tell what, if any, prep was done prior to coating it.

I haven't ruled this vehicle out entirely, but wouldn't touch it without a full detailed pre-purchase from a dealer or reputable LC servicer in the area. If I decide to go back and have it inspected this week, I'll gladly share what I find out. Does anyone in Northern Colorado have somewhere they would recommend for inspection above Stevinson Lexus of Frederick, which happens to be closest?

Thanks,

Josh

Thank you for the info. I spoke with Stan at that dealership. He was for the most part upfront. He did not mention the rust near Slee bumper, but when asked, he did send over photos of undercarriage. The muffler looked rotted out, but any shop could replace or upgrade that problem.

I’ll probably pass on this truck. However, if I lived in CO I would have more interest. Being in Texas, I’ve found more local options without the earlier life in the north east. The recent service history could make up for the rusty issues IMO as it is a 15yr old truck.

Quick update- Was going to buy by this weekend under the agreement that the bolt on rusty parts would be replaced by the dealer. But I was just informed that someone picked it up. I didn’t want to put a deposit down as it was something of “if it’s there by this weekend I’ll snag it”.

Yeah, I was just texting with them yesterday afternoon about a dealer inspection and professional rust removal and mitigation. Stan texted me back this morning that it was sold. I really liked the aftermarket mods, but the level of rust was going to be a lot of work for someone. Back to the search. Good luck with yours!

there is no reason why a person in FL or CO needs to buy a cruiser that lived its life in the rust belt... accessories do not make up for the lack of rust.

I wasn’t basing the purchase off of accessories. More so on color. Solely looking for a weekend toy. I’d rather not run my NAS D90 into the ground so choosing an older, preferably green LC100 would be a great option for me personally.

is green really that hard to come by? There is a guy near me selling a green one.. truck was in NY in 8 years before living in CO. One owner 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser

I've checked it out but decided to pass

It has rust underside the top rear hatch (common issue I assume). Undercarriage rust seemed servicable.... but not nearly as clean as it could be, for CO . clear coat on the hood is starting to be hazy. The exhaust has a very noticeable drone when accelerating.. Didn't look into why...

steering rack is weeping on one side, but steering felt precise, so maybe in the very beginning phase of failure. I did feel a very slight drivetrain / suspension clunk at starting and stopping.

interior was clean and free of any smells. AC cold.... Didn't notice any rattles or squeaks whilst driving.

If it wasn't for the rear hatch rust and leaking steering rack, I would have bought it around $9K
