Todd, that brake fluid reservoir sensor may be faulty, causing your dash light. You can remove the lid and check the float with a meter/test light, if you're familiar with that process.
 
I had this exact issue on the FJ73. Replacing the lid fixed the issue.

I also wondered if the float likes being more on the full side. I plan to start there - thank you.

Is that brake fluid reservoir interchangeable with any US spec reservoirs? Seems like it might be generic to other Toyota vehicles. Thank you.
 
Had to look it up in my notes since it had been so long. I ordered 84460-12011 which is the cap itself and it worked like a charm but keep in mind this is a 12V part (I think...) I don't know what your cruiser is.

Right. Mine is 24V. That's a good start anyway. Thanks!
 
Yours look to be 84460-12070 for 24V land cruiser application. It is what my 24V HZJ77 uses too.

Same here on my 1990 4Runner. Brake light would come on occasionally at first startup and stay on. I'd pull the lid off, put it back on, and light would go off. Hasn't happened in quite some time now. I haven't replaced anything.

Pulling it on and off only solved the problem for a short time and it would come back on. Finally I just replaced the cap and it never came back on. That was on the FJ73.

I haven’t seen this issue on my HZJ77 but now that I am talking about it, I bet it will. I am that lucky.

I took the cap assembly off last night and cleaned those connections. Didn't help. I suppose there's another connection at the actual e-brake but I'll have to leave locating that to a later date when I have clearance from my surgeon. I did order a replacement cap as well so maybe throwing parts at it will help. Thanks!
 
My master is for an 80 series.
I have to keep the reservoir overly full to make the light go out.

Yeah, I thought I had useful brake fluid in my shop but I think the reality is that it's circa 1998. :p On my list. Thanks!
