Lexus/Toyota Factory Navigation to 10" screen upgrade

I will get my brother in law to listen to the you tube video for any clues. My bet is that they are sourcing it from the same place in China. I would jump in and help with this, but I have an LC vs. and LX, and I'm not sure if the model is the same? Does the instruction link from Redpower offer anything more? It might be that there is more support from a Russian site vs. a Chinese one. If someone can confirm that the same product fits the LC, I am happy to jump in and help but that doesn't help the LX guys, especially @macmann who started this. I may just order the LC version and give it a go at some point. I actually feel more confident it can be done after seeing the Redpower site...

It appears to be the same unit, I posted it because it seemed to be more of an indepth install video and pictures than what the OP relied on. I'd much rather go through ebay to have some level of buyer protections. I think the LC and LX use the same unit.

If I can sell my old android HU and pioneer app radio on ebay to recoup some costs, I may pick one up to install and see if I can make it work.

I meet all the requirements and think I am your guy.

I've done some serious audio system/engine/ECU upgrades in my many vehicles, including both IPad and Android installs in my Porsche (IPad won in the end - see page 1). So these types of things, including Chinese, are very much in my wheelhouse.

I'd be happy to pursue this on behalf of the community.

Shoot me an IM if you're not yet working with someone else.

Ok guys. I cannot get any support from China at all. Anyone speak the language
and can call them? I have removed the unit and returned back to stock. I simply do not have time to mess with this project currently. I however would be happy to let another forum member tinker with this unit as long as they

1. Have knowledge on how the current Levinson system works.
2. Can read wiring diagrams and have access to them
3. Are able to understand basic wiring principles
4. Are able to spend the necessary time to deal with this project so other members can benefit.

I would use this system in a heartbeat if I could get a few bugs sorted out.

1. Able to show climate control temp. It's currently fixed at 25C. Like I said before, the temp does actually adjust but not on the screen.
2. Able to pipe sound from the android portion of the system through car speakers.

I can live with the rest of the issues.

Found this on my search but the unit does not match my 2005 lx. The website appear to be more legit and accepts CC payments so there more insurance in that aspect. I reached out to see if they have a unit specific to my model year....
Just an FYI - the images of the unit installed are in a Land Cruiser Prado, not a 100 series.

following this thread with great interest... any further thoughts/opinions/progress? slowly upgrading a [recently acquired] '03 and sure miss the aftermarket featuress i had given to my '00

I received the unit yesterday. I will try to work on it a bit this weekend unless it's just too hot to work.

Initial impressions are ok. Looks ok, screen is a bit too glossy so I might try to find an anti glare screen protector. Build quality seems ok. Harness look pretty decent. I will report more this weekend.

did you order from the Russian company?

Best of luck seanz0rz. If you need help, the hive mind is here.

I think @macmann sent his so @seanz0rz could try and figure out

Bingo. I'm hoping to get some work done this weekend. It's suppose to be over 100 both days, but we will see what I can get done. Since it means no hvac controls, it effectively puts the vehicle out of commission until it is done and working completely.

Some of the parts I don't even know what they do. there are a couple of antennas. One is clearly GPS. The other might be WiFi? There is a separate speaker for "nav" which I don't think I am a fan of. That feature really should be integrated into the stereo output, but since they are piggybacking off the stock radio, I believe this might be impossible.

Hopefully I will have a better update for you tomorrow.

This person might be able to help or at least point in the right direction. I don't know him personally. His name is Lloyd @ 832-914-0245.

Thanks.

Hit a snag as I don't know what board is suppose to go in the supplied box.

Box:

OEM navigation board connectors:

Board:

The board does not fit the box. The cutout is on the wrong side (could be the box is bent upside down. I do sheetmetal for a living and this is a common problem). The holes also do not line up with the standoffs.

I am actually not even sure that is the correct board for the box, but I can't imagine what else I would put in there.

So here is my initial review:

Here is the business end. It is very glossy and has quite a bit of glare:

The top of the screen is machined aluminum. It is screwed on and was a bit loose. I tightened it up and it was fine. The surround is made of what looks like die cast aluminum. The mold needs some work in the bottom corners, it isn't completely smooth. I have not fully installed it in the dash to check fit, but it does have some movement so you can adjust it.

Notice the bent tabs? They are not suppose to be that way. I am not sure if that is a result of China -> US or Texas -> California. It was packed very well from macmann.

GPS and Wifi(?) antennas:

Main wiring harness that taps into the tape deck:

It is wrapped in a fabric tape. Not my favorite wiring covering but it seems to be pretty good quality.

Another:

"Nav speaker" and DVR harness:[/URL]

I'll call this a "breakout box". It takes the harness from the tape deck and connects to the screen via the smaller connector.

So here is how this thing works. It emulates the stock MFD for things like AM/FM/CD, HVAC controls, Trip computer. Then it has a separate mode for Android. For example: if you are playing FM radio and switch to Android, it stops playing the FM radio but leaves the antenna up. Same with the CD, etc. I imagine this works the opposite way, if you want the navigation voice to work you must still be in the Android part of the unit. This is likely the reason for the extra speaker.

HVAC controls work, sort-of. No auto it seems, no polling the outside temp either. I'll have to look into why, but I suspect it is looking for the wrong pin or that function may be on one of the other nav boards that did not get carried over. The nav board does not fit into the supplied box at all. I will have to home brew something. I am unsure why mine is different. It is not the box, the cut out is not even the correct width to fit the connectors.

Bottom line: even if we can get everything to work as it is suppose to, it is still a deeply flawed system. I understand that by utilizing the factory control boards it makes it easy, but it does not make the operation of the truck easy. There are now NO physical HVAC buttons.

From the Russian video (FF to 2:05):
They have the correct metal box for my MFD boards. It looks like they might have both boards in the box so I will try that without the screen connected.

EDIT:

All of the displays are in metric, especially when in the "stock" system. No apparent option to change it. Very annoying.

Outside temp does not work, but auto temp does. Again, in Celsius.

The extremely glossy screen is infuriating.

Played with it a while longer tonight after the sun went down.

It really wants to be good, but it just isn't.

Here are the problems so far and their possible solutions:

1. Reverse Camera non-op. If I interrupt the camera before or after the reverse camera ECU, I can get it to work. Just some effort there and hard to not hack the wiring. It should be pretty easy though.

2. Temperature probe not working. Looks like it is a wiring issue, not sure on a solution. I get different readings when turning the vehicle to aux and then to on and then starting. Not sure what is going on here. It is currently giving me a negative celsius temperature, which it is most definitely not!

3. Units in metric. Maybe there is a setting? I haven't found it even in some of the more advanced menus that require a pass code to enter.

4. No AM/FM/CD audio in Android and no Android audio in the original MFD mode. I am not sure there is any solution to this.

5. Inconsistent actions of the buttons on the screen. Sometimes back goes back, sometimes it goes to the MFD display, etc. Looks to be the nature of the beast.

6. Unit produces alot of heat. The aluminum frame was very warm after 1 hour of playing with it.

7. NO SUPPORT. I think this is the biggest problem. What happens when it dies in 6 months?

Thank you - this is precisely why I was hesitant regarding getting excited about this unit. It's a complicated system that will require complicated replacement, and I cannot see that happening for $500...

Been lurking on the board for a while and following his thread with a lot Of interest. I was hoping for a better result but I'm not surprised. I just had a gut feeling this wasn't going to work. However, I've got some good news. According to GROM, they are expecting to launch V-Line last this year and have assured me that it will work with our factory NAV and maintain climate controls.

I wish I were closer, I'd register for the beta test.

Nice work on this Seanz0rz. i really which this had worked out.
