Ho. Lee. Crap. You gotta admire the huevos it took for the first guy to try that back in the day. I'm sure today it's a routine experience, but I can't say I'd be terribly calm and collected during my first crossing. Wow.

How bout those little fellas bailing water? That's a team effort right there.

Everything about that crossing makes me nervous!

nice video, but that's a tranquil creek compared to the rivers we cross here in that fashion! at the 300 ft crossing in my photo, 6 people died about a couple of weeks prior when a van full of people sunk when the waves got the better of the canoes and i knew that at the time! no matter how many times I do it, it's always a very intense experience, but the locals are very nonchalant about it and that's why there's accidents as they cross in near white water conditions!

Crazy.....I don't like being in whitewater on a capable Class V raft here in Colorado. Crossing a river in my truck, on top of a few boards being floated by old worn out canoes..... Yeah, that sounds intense! Too much for me.

My '04 Doublecab Tacoma. BajaRack (first one on a 1st gen. Taco!), Fj-80 wheels powdercoated black with 285/75/16 Treadwright Wardens (not a problem in 60k!), Bilstein 5100s with OME coils up front and AALs in back, Diehard Platinum battery & bunch of other small crap too.

On the shores of Lake Michigan last summer (I will have an article in 4WD & Sport Utlity Sept. issue about the trip). It was in 4 Wheel & Offroad's Reader's Rides a couple months ago if it looks a little familiar (or maybe you saw it on the wall of Sierra Expeditions customer rigs!).

Phil,

I have been looking at the campteq pop up for a while here and on E.P. I have yet to see a photo of the inside of the tent popped up and how you get in and out.... can you post a few shots?

Hey concrete, I have the optional side entrance along with the rear enterance on my CampTeq. I use a light (16lb)extendable ladder to get access. Set up with the ladder is about 30sec and you are ready to go in 60 sec. The best part is all bedding stays in place and does not need to be removed. The ladder stores in back(see above pic) and quickly adjusts if you want to get on top to be used as a viewing platform.

A bunch more info and pictures are at the second 1/2 of my CAMPTEQ THREAD.

Let me know if you want any other detailed pictures

OK, cool, thanks! So you get in from the side with a ladder and you are literally laying on the roof? Or does the tent come with a bottom to it kind of like a maggiolina clam shell type?

I have been confused as to how you access those things. Especially the one where they cut the roof out. I was on their webpage the other day looking at the photos and the short video clip.

EDIT: i'm going to go read your thread since a lot of my questions might have been answered there....

Love the pop up tent except for the price tag. That the price of 5 ordinary RTT!

5X
After owning a RTT I dont see it as a fair comparison.

You dont get Ferrari performance with a Volkswagen price tag and this no different after owning both.

No real bottom but sealed. Mine uses a suspension (1.5" of travel) slat frame with a 3" mattress open to the roof below.

Is it meant for 2 people?

Yes but I would not recommend it for you and a buddy or you may be more or less then friends in the morning:eek:

What confuses me about this iffering is that it appears to be much larger than a Maggiolina or CVT pop up RTT yet thos can sleep 2-4 people where this one is 1-2 apparently. Is there a technical reason it can not be built to have the whole thing raise up like those or no?

The footprint is the size of your roof, whereas many RTT's open up and over. I would not hesitate to sleep a couple up top. I think I can make it work for the occasions that my wife and daughters all come, but most of the time it will just be two of us so it's not a huge concern. You may be giving up sleeping area but you're gaining usable space on the roof and a lower profile and center of gravity which were both important to me.
