Picked my work truck up at the body shop today from having some job site damage repaired. Apparently this is an acceptable solution for when you break a battery terminal....

So the body shop did this?
Yep! They were cleaning the terminals and broke one. So the kid, not knowing what to do, took the vise grips and attached them to the stud to hold the terminal on. Then proceeded to use a roll of electrical tape to keep everything in place.
I needed to take it directly to my mechanic to have it inspected and he caught it. Thought I was messing with him as a joke. Luckily it didn't come loose in transit.
And this was supposed to be a reputable shop!

You got to watch out for thoes "reputable" body shops. I took my wifes car to Lancaster Lincoln Mercury. Yes Im calling them out! to replace and paint a rear bumper that had been rear ended. and paint a side mirror at the same time. They got grease on the head liner and didnt tell us. Then they messed up the pile/texture by scrubbing it with solvent. Then wouldnt replace it. The manager said the car wasnt new or perfect in other ways so it shouldnt matter to me. He also suggested that we were lying by saying they did it. The fact was that there was nothing at all wrong with the head liner when we took it to them.

Man, that's sad, but not a shocker. I saw a lot of downright nefarious shenanigans when I was a tech. The worst was at a Toyota dealership I worked at in California (first Toyota dealer in Ca., Ron Goode). There was a Camry in for a head gasket. Tech took it apart and pushed it into the lot while waiting for parts. Lot boy tried to start it and just kept cranking it over. The tech never disconnected the battery...injectors sprayed fuel all over the engine bay, and then POOF! We got it extinguished quickly without major damage. However, some of the harnesses and various plastic bits were melted. The dealership owner made the bright decision to not tell the owner, and to "fix it". This involved used junkyard parts. It was a real ridiculous scene. The best part was when the owner came to pick up his car. Something wasn't working, I think the horn, he lifted the hood to take a peek and there were still melted plastic bits here and there that had not been replaced. It was pretty obvious what had happened. He freaked out. It was a riot seeing the service manager trying to explain why things were melted. That was probably the worst shop I ever worked at...not surprisingly, it's closed now.
