I don't know why, but I hate ordering s*** online. I'll pay extra to have it in my hand when I buy it.

If the option doesn't exist, so be it.

Not to mention they're site says $29 and unavailable.

I get that, there are some things that I won't buy unless I see the product in hand. Some of my tools are that way and certainly bigger ticket items that I can't return easily.

The first filter is the discontinued part number, if you scroll down you'll see the $17 OEM option, and then other non OEM options afterwards.

The $17 one has been discussed. It's half the size.

Wix has a cheaper one too. Also smaller.

That's weird, the ones I got were the same size. Weight listed for both filters on the site is pretty close too. Either way its a good source for parts that are less expensive than other places.

I bought my TRad radiator at Toyota parts deal. I have some parts incoming from them too.

I also prefer buying in person, but I do like shopping with mud community vendors, and the quest for a deal is pretty real…so Partsouq, megazip etc.

Land cruiser is getting sidelined for holiday family obligations on the regular…didn’t I order these parts in September!? It’s calling me. Driving my Subaru Forster up to the ski area yesderday was nice. I was happy that I was driving through all the slushy road salt in it and not my cruiser, but my kid was adamant that it’s a much more comfortable ride up…unfortunately he’s not much help in the maintenance department. Eight year olds.

Brief Update:

I finally had a chance to unwrap the main engine wire harness and have a look under the ultra cooked heat wrap. It literally disintegrated as I tried to unwrap it. I assumed the worst, but it looked intact. It may be brittle under the individual wire insulation, but no melting.

I wrapped the exposed wires in Tesa tape, what I used in my NSS repair to cover the individual wires.

Then with thanks to @FMC80 I was able to wrap the whole section in a fur coat.

A long while back Pell sent me a section of heat shield wrap, which has a cool name, which I have unfortunately forgotten. It was cut to size and all ready for me to wrap around and secure with stainless cable ties.

This was nice to wrap up…literally.

One of us installed the firesleeve wrong and I think it's definitely not me (probably/maybe/lol). The orange goes on the outside and the furry fire-resistant blanket goes on the inside and protects your wires. Thoughts from you or anyone else?

Look I'm not just throwing numbers around when I said these filters weren't cheap man. I heavily researched ownership costs before purchase. I have a spread that takes into account fuel, maintenance, tires. Insurance, registration.... Basically everything and gives me a cost to own per mile.

You are correct. I’ve got it inside out. Drat. I think it likely will provide plenty of heat protection this way, but I will fix it, I just need more SS cable ties. I’m really it sure why I thought it went furry side out, but it was intentional at the time! I claim no expertise here! Thanks for catching that and speaking up!

Maybe your situation is not the same as mine?

I know what my time is worth per hour, do you? Sure, I could go around and try to nickle and dime every part, build spread sheets and every bit of nuance but bottom line is that I save my money by working most effectively. If I could make $50 or $75 or even $250 an hour form my job isn't it better that I spend $12 dollars on shipping and order most of my parts in large chunks? Shouldn't I maybe even order 4 filters and cut my average cost to only $3 per shipping and now I am $21 per filter? Less if ordering anything else? All I know is this: think outside of the box or get trapped in one.

My point was I ordered all my parts at once from one or two of these places and saved a ton of time and money.

You and I said the same thing in a different way. I quoted $12 shipping plus filter, you added it with the cost of one filter to hit $35. I tend not to order one oil filter at a time. My point is related to @PNWTreeOctopus comment about getting parts and a swap. If you shop around and are willing to compile one or two big orders it saves quite a bit of money. I got four filters for a diesel sent to me for $84 total which came out to $21 a filter, not a big deal man.

I will say that the big parts orders are the way to go with overseas vendors. However, my larger order from Partsouq incurred an additional customs fee of $35 that FedEx billed me. I’m not sure if that’s because I topped $1k on parts or what but I must have triggered a customs response.

I’m glad there is some lively debate about parts going on, drama! Excitement!

I’ve said it before, but I always feel a little jealous reading the threads from 10+ years ago that refer to calling cDan for a parts order. It would be sweet to just have a go to place for all of it. I certainly do feel like I have spent a lot of time shopping around for the best deal , weighing shipping etc. That being said I have found what works well for me, by trying out various vendors. This has been my approach—I don’t claim it’s efficient!

Yeah I got a custom fee on one of my orders as well.... but still came out ahead. My best order was new seat cushions was having a dealership price match the online price from Toyotapartsdeal.com and I didn't have to pay $150 in shipping.... but that's a one off, bulky item.

I also think that is a bit different for @Dusten and I because we both have diesel engines. For example, I could only find one vendor that had the timing belt cover gasket, no other stock elsewhere. Can't really get a price match on that.

Injectors are back in the cruiser!

Unfortunately the little clips that hold the connectors together have failed and broken. Their service life is shorter than their age apparently. I’m fairly sure a couple of these connections are loose enough the truck will shake them loose. I’ll try little cable ties. I did give every connection a dab of dielectric grease. They may just be kinda slippery to boot. I’m only a little frustrated. I’m currently not interested in buying and redoing all the connectors. Open to your suggestions. I obviously want to solve this before the upper intake goes on.
