I just did mine this weekend as well - go for the brightest LED you can fit for the RPM Guage - for some reason the light doesn't creep through as brightly for that guage - I did all of mine and that is the only one that is a little dimmer than the others...
I got my LED lights and installed them this evening.... they are such a different look on the dash. I love it. The photos I have posted are horrible but show the difference from the stock look. I went with red like sl33py did. They look alot brighter in the photos..... They are not that bright in person. The photos are taken in the lowest setting of the lights... its easy on the eyes and soothing. I still have to do the V8 - RPM guage. It still has the white light.
Thanks again sl33py!!! These lights rock!![]()
My RPM guage is an aftermarket one that goes to 7,000 rpms. The light is shined down from the top of the guage rather than the back.....I have to figure it out with some sort of Jerry rig....
The LED lights are a great upgrade for any cruiser.....huh?
Hey Alpinecowboy...I did have an issue getting them in. However I took some 220 sand paper and rolled the light around it until it took enough off to fit. Not really as much of a PITA as i thought it may be.I've got the same thing going with my Pyrometer - the PO has it nicely mounted in the dash and looks perfect for the spot but it is a green backlight... I can't even figure out how to open it up yet...
Yes, the LED upgrade is definitely sweet - I didn't go for the super brights like you and sl33py, I went for the next step down in brightness and it sorted out nicely - I wasn't sure if I wanted to have a hassle getting them to fit - did the super brights give you a hard time fitting as sl33py indicated or was it easy?
I did the heater today. it was interesting on hoew to remove the green back ground. I lightly scraped it off till everything was white. Dont go to DEEP!!Nice job! Looks great - now you just need to get your tach sorted and the heater controls... Have you done any of the other lights yet? Interior dome and cargo are the next biggest improvement i think.
Hey Tom - here's another idea for your tach. If it's not an easily replaced (ie -swap to LED) bulb try using some red gel between the bulb and gauge face? It's cheap and easy to find online.
The tach I am going to use a little red light condom I found at PepBoys. Its like a gel condom for lights!
It looks pretty cool for halloween too.
I got some (way more than i need, but also buried in my garage...) online for maybe 5-6$ and another 5$ s/h. So for $10'ish you should be able to get a sheet for everything you want to filter to red. (i've been thinking of seeing what a red dome light (w/ those HP LEDS) might look like...)
A 5 sec google search:
Theater Gels
looks like 8 or so for the gel and another 7.50 for s/h. So 15-16$ total. I bet you can find some a bit cheaper with a bit of searching. Or even a local theater supply place nearby?
GL!

Or the black comes off the face......lesson well learned on my end by the way!
P.S. I got your PM..................... I am honored.
Do you know Balard or Freemont?
