Extremely useful — those who have a power lift gate may have a rear hatch opener on their key fob, but if you’re out in the tundra and you and/or your kids are camping in the cab and need to have a quick bathroom break, you don’t want to be looking for keys. One press of the button, and, voila. Smart simple mod that pays back huge dividends in usability and utility. Well done!

I love this concept, but also have concerns about it being bumped/pushed by the kids. Anyone think through the possibility of a manual level style handle kind of like the release for the jump seats?

Unfortunately the entire mechanism is electronic so there wouldn't be an easy way to make a mechanical exit.

We've just assembled another 10 of the rear entry switch kits in various flavors and added the Shell color to our lineup. Let us know if you need a switch kit. Specs and details here: 200 Series Rear Exit/Handle Kit - Now Shipping!

Shell vs. Sand Beige for reference

Interested in how the install works? The fine folks at @OTRAMM did a killer install video, check it out!

It also looks great in Velcro... :hillbilly:

Just gotta re-Mount t the handle...

Hey Kurt... ( @cruiseroutfit ) Got any black handles?

I do, what happened to yours?

What's with the Velcro?

Still have old one...but I just finished the massive PITA of completely fitting my cargo area panels with Velcro.

Sounds weird, I know...but WOW. Every few minutes/hours I keep hitting on super helpful solutions for things back there because I can literally mount anything anywhere. More on that later. But if you have a black one...my current one sticks out like a sore thumb.

Cool, yeah we can get you a spare handle. We'll be out until next Monday but drop us an email or call and we'll get you taken care of.

Interesting

Just a quick after action report for posterity..

I installed the kit last week. Illumination and door unlock action work flawlessly as advertised.

My only suggestion to prospective installers is to be very careful in cutting out the plastic panel as it's apparently quite easy to make it slightly too big thus giving the switch housing a loosish fit requiring double sided tape or glue to rectify.

I cut mine pretty dang carefully to spec but in the end required an adhesive mod to keep the switch housing in situ. Perhaps if I'd undercut it by even 0.5mm circumferentially the switch housing would've wedged itself into place more effectively?

There seem to be locking tabs on the switch housing but for some reason I cannot get them to engage.

Awesome mod. Now the wife and can get out in the morning after a night's sleep in the back..

^^ About cutting...
I cut one deliberately too small...then slowly shaved it larger with a box cutter blade until I could just barely force the switch into the cut-out. This resulted in a rock-solid framing of the switch.

Rule of thumb for cutting holes...err on the side of too small!
