I have an 06 also. I tried the Teyes but couldn't get around the whine. What amp did you change to? Was it a straight forward swap? Also, do you still have stock speakers?

Someone got it sorted...

Got my radio in easily. No issues

NOT

I’m on hour 5. Got it all hooked up, had it working fine and then boom unit lost power. Spent the lost hour trying to figure out wtf happened. Too deep to undo what I did. Too stupid to fix it. Boy I’m steamed!!!

Do not panic, won’t help.
1. If I remember correctly, there is a fuse inside the unit. Check it you have +12 coming from the vehicle.
2. If not - vehicle fuses.
3. Schedule a consultation.
4. If you did not do it yet - create account and search support articles.

Sorry for standard may be not very useful stuff.

Thanks I calmed down.

Not the unit fuse
Not vehicle fuse 41, I’ll see which others are applicable
Scheduled my consultation for tomorrow
I’ll do that thanks

10 amp fuse marked RADIO....... we're back in business

Mine is a little different (bought my unit for my 04 LC from Phoenix Automotive) than yours but I experienced the same sort of thing with sound and I was playing around deep into the Sound settings and got it to finally work. The amp settings, balance, f&r, internal volume etc were all adjustable and the settings were faaaaaar from intuitive. No explanation as to what did what and frustrating as hell
It was completely a fluke that I hit the right combination but I think that’s a possibility for you as well
Can I please see a screenshot of your settings ?

OK here's where I'm at:

-05 LX470, Nav
-G6 unit from Phoenix
-Unit works wonderfully for the most part. Powers up. Automatically connects to carplay. Plays music, does what its supposed to do.

BUT

At first I get no audio, but then I set the "sound field delay" to where each quadrent gets a different value. Suddenly, volume. But it is not good sound. It sounds like the unit's preamp is being utilized & the ML amp is getting no juice. The "AMP on" option & cur volume are both adjusted properly in the settings.

So today I took out my TV ECU & tied the NAV & DVD lines together as suggested elsewhere. No change.

My amp worked nicely when I had the vline bluetooth thing in there, so I know that isn't the issue.

I have a scheduled call with Phoenix in a half hour. Last time they weren't so helpful. Hopefully it'll get sorted.

Anxiously awaiting results! I have 2004 LC100 and have watched this thread hoping for a reliable solution, but most installs seem to be painfully problematic. Good luck with it!

Just FYI: LC100 tesla units have known issue with background noise on LC, the grounding on LX and LC done differently. This is where I faced an issue and could not solve it. May be if you go to some *pro*, it will be solved after a SLOM (… big load of money) 😪

Just got off with Phoenix. They are forwarding a video and my issues to the next level up tech person. Not sure why they bothered with the low level tech person. They didn't know much. Stay tuned.

I thought I read that swapping the factory amp for a good 5 channel amp helped with the noise issues.

Possible, but it is not plug-&-play install any more. You need to get another piece of equipment ($$), re-splice the wires, do some mechanical work to install it under the seat and, at the end of the day, find out, that 20 years old oem speakers are not that great… and possible upgrade speakers too ($$$). Not to mention time will be spent on this journey.
BTW, most units has its own built-in amp, cannot tell how good it is (safely assume that not). You can try to rewire and use it.

Progress!!! I looped in my VAIS Bluetooth unit to the two fitting plugs from the Phoenix G6 unit. So now its using the VAIS it as the Bluetooth transmitter & the Phoenix as the brains. I’ve got good sound & CarPlay ! We are back in business people.

Looks like the BT transmitter unit in the phoenix is just a piece of s***.

Is there anyone in the Dallas Ft worth are willing (paid of course) to install one of these for me or know of an audio shop competent enough to do it? I know it will be expensive but if I do it I’ll end up paying more in the long run. I would like to update my 2003 lx470 and go all out with the stereo, amp and speakers. Yes I understand I’m looking at spending thousands of dollars but it’s worth it to get it done correctly the first time instead of me screwing it up. Thank you in advance

Nick

Hi all

So I just finished up my head unit project with OEM backup camera. I’ll do a quick summary of my setup for anyone thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these.

In short, no i don’t regret it. It looks great and is functional.

The equipment:
1- Phoenix g6 head unit
2- Vais soundlinq 3
3- the aftermarket backup camera (for the wire it comes with)
4- t taps or posi taps
5- 4 beers

Basically I followed phoenix’s YouTube instruction for removing the original head unit, swapping the black box into their unit, and installing it in.

You’re on your own for the plugs. Plug in anything that fits except for the radio. You need to use the cars oem radio plug there.

Here was the tricky part for me. The sound via Bluetooth was dog s***. Until I looped in the VAIS unit.

With the Vais unit it was very decent. You just install the Vais unit as it’s supposed to, and loop in the phoenix plugs into and out of the Vais. It will make sense when you have your hands on it.

Before you close up the unit, take the aftermarket camera they provide. Take the Yellow RCA cable with the red loose cable hanging off it. Plug the male end into “camera”, and tie the red loose wire from the RCA into the units brown loose wire marked “back” - run that to the back seat. Close up the unit, install the trim etc. it should work.

Now to finish the backup cam, cut the yellow rca cable after the female end, open that wire up and you’ll find a black and white wire. Find the short long plug on the back of the TV ECU under the passenger seat. Tap the black wire into pin 39 and tap the white wire into pin 40. Tap the red wire into pin 29.

Bing bang boom that should do it.

Edit that wasn’t quick sorry. But more detail can be found on my build thread. And more frustration.

Great job!
Do not confuse people - it is not 4 beers, it’s the whole bottle of whiskey project.

I'll jump into this fray and add my "experience."

First, tried the GROM VLine unit. It worked...intermittently, like maybe HALF the number of start-ups, it would come up. Checked all connections, fuses, etc, no good. Too late to return this crap (to me, but others on the forum have had good luck with it).

Next, ordered and "installed" a Tesla style unit from a China place called TopNavi on eBay. Real PIA to get the unit seated all the way back to connectors. Virtually NO instructions. But, got it in after 3 glasses of wine (sorry and bad for me- I'm allergic to many beers). Turned unit on and everything works, including A/C! Go to snap in the side HVAC panels (which look very good out of the box), and the two side panels plus the main unit are TOO WIDE for the stock LX470 cavity. Tried backing out the head unit a bit to see if things would wedge into place, and it got closer, but still no good. I'm about 5 or 6 hours into this now, so I'll probably have to switch to boxed wine. Going to return this unit, and maybe try Phoenix or Teyes (or Rhino?).

Anyway- learned some things for from this failure.

1- installing the A/C "amplifier" is a little trickier than it looked to me at first. Couple of different orientations are possible, and space is tight in the cavity with all the wires
2- Google translate works on the Chinese text that is written on some of the wire labels, and can be helpful.
3- Don't forget the plastic clips that secure the top of the head unit and the side panels
4- On my next try, I'm going to remove the center console panel so I can get to the back of the cigarette lighter socket and replace it with a USB from the head unit for connecting my iPhone.

Anyway, most or all of you know these things already, but they were new to me.

I'd rather be spending this cash on my suspension.

Mine looked like that until I fussed around with the cables behind. They were in the way. Might not be the same. But eventually mine seated in decently. Still protrudes a bit here and there but it’s fine at first few glances.
