Thanks! Did you keep everything else original? ML speakers/amps/etc, or did you bypass that? How is the responsiveness is the touchscreen? Any recommended items to add on beside the firmware?
All original here. If you wear polarized sunglasses you’ll want an anti glare screen protector. I’ve yet to find the perfect one.

My Phoenix G6 experience was a C+.

They sent me red trim when I have the orange wood trim. Takes a long time to hear back from them, but decent success using whatsapp and the actual phone line.

Had buzzing/no sound, the sound field delay change fixed that.
Boots up fast, connects wireless carplay fast, but connection is a little slow. Ill try wired next time.
I got the OEM camera to work, tapping into the parking assist unit under passenger seat
AC controls work. My 2004 had the pin 60 issue so HVAC was hit or miss on changing controls.

Does your full sound system work? Play something bass heavy and check if you can feel it. Only my front end sound worked with g6

I have sound in second row, and it probably lacks any form of bass. I tried to give the stock unit a little bit of testing with cassettes and the self-help CD's that were left behind and it was underwhelming.

I'll have to spend more time figuring out if all components are rocking and rolling....if I need to turn off/on amp settings in head unit.

@XAlent

I found out about a potential workaround. This unit takes over the A/V functions on the factory nav unit, but leaves the climate control intact. Just touched base will see what they say.

That's an interesting concept
It's just whether they can make it work on the Jap version

They seem to think it probably will, but I just sent them the pictures you posted earlier that show the back of the US-based head unit assembly and the JDM. This device they're selling hijacks the old GPS system, so if the connections on the back related to GPS happen to be among the 4 receptacles that are identical between US and JDM versions, we're ok. Or maybe they'll be willing to work a new harness.. For $850 I would hope they are.

Px unit still going strong from phoenix. Everything is functional.
Has anybody tried one of the dash top units like this?

Seems like it is potentially a good option for those who don't want to rip up the dash. I am not a fan of having it on n the windshield or top of the dash because it would be a magnet for thieves. I am trying to think of a clean way to mount it in a lower profile location.

Their tech guy says it will work! The factory CD player still has to send audio to the head unit so that has to be tested first, but otherwise he's confident it will plug right in. I'll pick one of these up and post back in a few weeks.. In the meantime I'll continue being very skeptical to avoid what might be a major let down.

So the factory touchscreen started to fail where many of my finger pushes weren't registering or it would register but select the wrong buttons, apparently normal due to age and wear. So I bought and installed the latest and greatest G6 version from Phoenix Automotive and although the plugs and all were relatively straightforward, it was a huge pain in the ass to somehow mash that huge birdsnest of wires back behind the radio and actually shove the radio back in to the dash. Then came the second pain-point which was that audio, even with the factory amp and the amp switch defaulted to on, I was only getting a very low volume sound after turning it all the way up. Plugging in the factory radio and cranking it to full volume then reinstalling the G6 made no difference. What did fix it was turning off the factory amp option and leaving the AMP switch option on and then messing with the sound field delay screen to get the sound coming out just right, otherwise it sounded like an overly compressed MP3/4 or XM radio which in a word, is garbage. Then setting the EQ in the DSP options further enhanced the audio quality and now it definitely has more punch than the stock radio did. It took quite a while to get it dialed in so I definitely don't recommend it for any novice tinkerer. Now I just have one issue and maybe it's just a function of the newest G6, but from my understanding, the older PX6 worked just like factory in regards to the power antenna, it only powered it on when the radio app was selected, the antenna would go back down otherwise. With my G6, as soon as I turn the car on, the antenna powers up and raises no matter which function is selected. I tried turning off the power antenna option in the settings but it changed nothing. It's a minor quirk and I tend to be on the ocd side. Also, I chose to wire up a new backup camera because our factory camera is trash with low resolution that always washes out in low light situations and requires more work to wire it to the android unit than just running new wires to a much better quality 720p camera. Now the backup image is sharp and great day or night.
Lastly, the AC controls work perfectly, out of the box I had no issues controlling both the front and rear AC, works exactly as it did stock and the physical buttons on the bottom work exactly as they should, no settings changes necessary for me. What did require a settings change were my steering wheel controls, the up/dn buttons were reversed, a simple settings change in the system settings fixed that.
Having an Android phone, I primarily use Android auto and it functions just as it should as well. Played a few videos on Youtube and it played fine as well.
I also replaced the burnt out bulbs with LED bulbs in the diff-lock and antenna buttons to match the new head unit while I was in there swapping it to the new side bezels (which aren't the best fitting).
If anyone else has insights about the power antenna issue on these new G6 units for the 06-07 LX, I'd like to hear it since I'm at a loss and tech support has no clue what I'm talking about haha.

I really like that there is a near OEM looking camera! What model did you use?

I actually had to buy one from Phoenix and to the get the part that replaces the factory licenseplate light with one that has a camera built-in from Amazon, tested both cameras and the one that came from Phoenix was higher resolution 720p vs the one that comes with the Amazon unit that's NTSC. Then I removed the camera that came with the Amazon one and swapped in the Phoenix audio one, it is a direct fit.

Would you mind sharing which one you bought on Amazon?

I did have to tweak it a bit myself to get it to fit properly however, just like the reviews said, it fits very loose. I had to use a heat gun to bend the tab out on the one side to make it more like the OEM one. I also cut pieces of thin adhesive foam I had lying around to make a gasket so that it would seal against the body to keep out dust and moisture.

1) The Power Attenna gets me every time too (2004). I didn't even connect it to the back of the head unit.
2) I was getting more room with the cables by not connecting the HVAC box and just sitting it on top of the DIN unit.
3) I was hoping the wood trim would be more peach colored to match the OEM, but Phoenix said "its not available"
4) I am struggling to get the wood trim to sit properly and not pop out.

I have my power antenna connected, but I have pushed the manual retraction button down, and it stays down now all the time until I put it back up, even after stopping and restarting the vehicle

I think all LX power antennas work this way as mine does the same but the manual antenna button does not retract the antenna all the way down, the antenna still comes up a little over an inch at it's lowest setting. It only retracts fully once the vehicle is turned off. Would be nice if it didn't come up at all until the radio function is selected but it's not bugging me too much at this point.

Yeah, the antenna motor is powered by the blue wire in the main radio harness which is why it still goes up/dn even with the antenna cable disconnected. I could just clip that power wire and the antenna won't go up at all but then I won't be able to listen to the radio at all so I'm just living with having the antenna set in the lowest position whenever the vehicle is turned on.
