What have you guys done. I am scheduled to get a new tire upgrade. I am going to a 285/75/16 tire size. Original tire size is 270/65/16 I believe. Will it be to much for the diff?

That size is no problem. You can go much bigger with out issue. I would get 315/75 16's if you already have the 1.5" lift personally
Wow. 315? Really? Maybe after the 285 I will get those. Do you think 285 with a 1.5 inch would look abnormally small?

I'll add this: Still have a lot of life left in my 285's, but I'm wishing I went with 295's and I have NO lift. If I had any lift at all I'd be wishing for bigger tires for sure. I've actually been collecting lift components slowly as they pop up in the classified section, but I'm holding off on install until it's time for new tires. Unfortunately, I know I'll want to do gears after that... and then it's a slippery slope!

Hey just push the power button!!! I am thinking 305 70 16 Cooper ST Maxx. I bought Slee's rear 30mm spacers which will net me about 1 inch in the rear then adjust front torsion bars. I like the width. At 33" the change in gearing may be noticeable but even if we lose a second accelerating the four speed will have lower RPM on the highway.

That's the size I'm thinking next too, I've got 30mm spacers at home as well, seems like we're going the same direction. Funny about the power button, I guess I should have used my own logic!

Is that a good

idea. I heard that the PWR button should be only used for certain settings not everyday use. It can cause less engine life. Is this a myth?

It would seem to depend on your right foot more than anything. Keep it in high RPMs and transmission under stress any thing could wear out. My limited understanding is it adjusts the shift points and allows the engine to rev slightly higher. Stay out of the throttle and it should not be a problem. Then it is there if you need it.

Hi guys, I am new in the forum, I have an FZJ80 rig, and since I upgraded my tyres from 275/70R16 to 285/75R16 I am getting shift problems, it shift hards from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, and the transmission looks decontrolled some times, it some times it shift while is was not supposed to, it for example shifts hard when not accelerating mainly when in second gear, can you please guys help me on this, is it tyres consequences or another thing.

Note: 295/75/16 are rare. Check w a chain tire shop to determine how many are available in your area/state. In ca w. Discount tire in cal for Cooper at3 xlt...only 90. Thus lookin at 285 (huge #s).
