To the OP: there is a lot of very good information in this thread, you would be wise to heed it. Make sure that everything you took apart has been put back together correctly.

Did the CEL light up briefly at start up back when the engine ran? If so, you need to chase the no CEL issue, because no CEL = no start.

Have you found and followed the no-start guide in the FAQ?

Everyone on this thread has one goal: to help you get your truck running.

I'm going to be picking up a new rotor for the dizzy today, and while I was looking at the cap for it, there is this plug with four wire that come from the ecu. I tested to see if I would get any voltage out of it with the ignition on and in accessory to no avail. Does anybody know what this plug is?

Post a picture of connector and where you found it.

No One can really follow WHAT he did, or in what order.

Go back to what you took apart.

By the way, the plug wires on the CAP do not go in order around the CAP in 1,2,3,4,5,6. It is 1,5,3,6,2,4. In the direction of rotation of the rotor.

The cylinders are numbered front to back, 1,2,3,4,5,6.

Make sure that the wiring harness unplugged from the distributor gets plugged back in.

Make sure the coil wire from the coil goes back and is plugged in to the center hole on the distributor cap.

This is what happens when you randomly start changing stuff. You introduce NEW problems to confuse the issue further.

Diagnose the problem, THEN replace what is necessary. Unfortunately, too many actual shop technicians think this same way because they didn't learn PROPER troubleshooting. If the computer says it's the fuel system, then replace everything in the fuel system.....

I shouldn't even post this because I'm just gonna piss off somebody.....
Bilt3me, Your sage advice shouldn't piss anyone off, because the advice you've given is absolutely correct.

***I've looked specifically for the "no start guide", but seem unable to find it. Can anyone please assist? I am having similar issues (98% no CEL, and occasionally a flicker CEL before it goes out.) Changed fuses and fuel pump reply; changing fusible links tonight. Before I create a thread or ask any further questions...just wanting to find the "no start guide". Thank you in advance.

From the first Post...
"I am getting 12v at the ignition coil and at the end of the wire that goes from the ignition coil to the dizzy. However I am not getting spark at the ignition coil"

mmmmm..What?

@originaliowan, the guide can be found in the 80 series FAQ, in the maintenance section.

With the key turned to run, if the CEL is not on, the bulb is burned out, or the ECU isn't getting power. If the ECU isn't getting power, this needs to be addressed first, dicking with spark, fuel, etc, isn't going to do any good until the ECU has power.

Hey guys,

The check engine light does NOT light up at all when accessory mode and when cranking. The VAF is also brand new, as the old one somebody had yanked out and broke. However I don't suspect the vaf causing the issue as the lc did run briefly with out the whole intake hose/vaf assembly off.
Im posting this from memory, so feel free to shoot me, but the procedure for 94's is different than from 95-97 as our trucks are OBD-I. AS I RECALL, in the service manual, our check engine light comes on when the ignition key is turned, then goes off while actually cranking. I'm opening the service manual as we speak to confirm. In any case, the fusible links will cause the condition you are describing.

Have you already checked for stored codes? regardless of the CEL the codes stay stored in memory (since youve replaced the battery at least...)

it wont do you any good if the bulb is burned out obviously, but here is the process.

When you said you checked fuses did you check the ones under the hood as well? Thats where the EFI fuse lives and my guess is its blown if you aren't seeing a CEL with the key on. If you replace the fuse and it blows immediately reply back. I had that happen and it was a shorted oxygen sensor wire down on the underside.

Greetings ladies and gentleman. Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the LC "no - start guide". As of yet, I am yet unsuccessful in making my truck run. Summary:

1996 LX450. No historical issues; nothing aftermarket. Drove fine, shut off to grab a beer with a friend. Would not start. Took to shop; they jiggled some wires and it ran again...for a few miles until it just died on the road. Towed it back to the shop. I stopped at the shop the next day; it started right up...and ran for 15 seconds until it died. Yes, the CEL was no longer on. Same thing two days later...started fine....then died 15 seconds later.

I ordered a used fuel pump relay. Truck started fine, and I drove it 5 minutes. Shut it off. Again, no CEL. But didn't die when it was running. Probably coincidence.

Replaced the fusible link. Checked all fuses. Replace the recommended relays under the hood. Turned key on, YES! A CEL...but I needed to charge my battery. So, 15 minutes later with a charged battery....no CEL. You've got to be kidding me.

And if this matters....the CEL comes back on if I disconnect the (new) fuel pump relay. CEL goes away when I plug it back. :(

Sooooo, I've tracked down an electronics wizard in my rural Alaskan town; he is willing to help. But seeking advice so that we can collectively get my 80 series back up and running.

TYIA
