I guess this is less of a build thread at this point than just an enjoying my truck thread. Took the truck and my new Oztent upstate this holiday weekend and had a great time.

Just back from 4,500 miles round trip to the Solid Axle Summit in Ouray, CO plus a side trip to Moab. Other than a rock chip in my windscreen from the highway on the drive back, she seems to have made it back intact.

Truck is going to hit the selling block shortly. Pretty much all modifications are catalogued here in this thread. Going to be chasing low 30s to start.

Sad to see you getting rid of the KZJ71, it sure will make the new owner happy! Side question - do you have any diesel mechanics you can recommend in the NYC area? Picked up an LJ71 and it'll be arriving in the winter, so looking for a reputable garage to work on things I can't tackle on my own. Thanks and GLWS!

I use ludlow garage in Manhattan for most routine things but if you need something more I’d give @mongoose2231 a shout. He did my knuckle rebuild and e-locker install amongst a few other things and did a great job.

I just live in New York City and don’t get enough opportunities to use it and the extra cash was appealing. But I ultimately knew I was going to regret selling it.

Truck is currently in winter hibernation down in Alabama, but boy I sure do miss it.
In the meantime, sketching out 2023 truck projects, which include (1) mechanical fuel pump conversion, (2) redo the exhaust to go all the way back, (3) new control arms to get rid of caster correction bushings, (4) weld some of the intercooler piping connections to cut down on the rubber boots in the system, and (5) rock sliders.

Nothing new to report on the build front. Just returned from a trip to Wyoming and Montana with the heaviest wheeling this little car has seen yet. Need to repair a bit of fender damage and sort a transfer case leak, then gonna invest in some armor. Still need to get to the mech fuel pump conversion going too at some point soon. Truck did 4500 miles round trip, got us there and home safely. Ticked over 250,000 kms this trip. Couldn’t ask for better from a 30 year old truck.

Since my last long drive out west last summer, I’ve had this leak in the transfer. I’m now thinking about getting it sorted and trying to figure out where it’s coming from. I’ve driven 1000 miles with it and the fluid level hasnt dropped so I suppose it isn’t too bad.
I think it’s the output seal but it seams weird for the fluid to be migrating forward. The whole back half of the case is wet. Anyone have any thoughts?

Mine has a similar looking leak, based on the pattern of fluid on the outside. Going to be pulling my transmission today and will have a look at the top of the transfer case, I suspect it might be coming from the transfer shift lever.

Let me know what you find. If I need to drop the gearbox to fix I’d probably just leave it be awhile.
