Hello,

The transfer seal needs replacement, and the bolts might be a little loose. In old age, the seal becomes brittle, and oil seeps through the seal and spreads over the transfer. The leak is not enough to have an effect on the oil level.

This is a good excuse to take out the transfer and replace all the seals.

Here's my transfer case pulled out, definitely looks like the leak is either coming from the transfer shift lever seal or one of the indicator switches. The seal part number is 90313-13001, doesn't look like the indicator switch washers are available separately but they should be pretty easy to match up with generic seal washers.

Replaced my transfer shift lever seal this weekend. I don't think it was the cause of the leak after all, it turned out that one of the indicator switches was missing its seal washer.

The manual calls for a bit of MP grease on the lip of the seal, I decided to pack in a bunch under the cover washer just to help repel water.

Pretty easy job to replace the seal once the rear half of the transfer case is taken off.

Do you still have the leak? I suspect the seal between the gearbox and transfer is toast and my transfer is overfilling and finding places to leak out. My gearbox was about 1/2 qt low.

I don't think it is leaking, though I have only driven about a hundred miles since replacing the seal. My brake master cylinder went out just as I got the transmission back in.
