Thanks Pacer. All good points.
Is a rear bumper on gx something that gets beaten that often? Watching a video in earlier pages of this thread I can see how stock side steps would fly away on first turn.

Looking at that list I may just sell this and buy something already built. I know it is lazy way but between what I threw at the car modifications and learnt not to do it again, and my limited time and budget I probably should be getting something "ready" to enjoy. Or maybe just do minimum now and after I feel that I like it prepare better for next year.
I would build it, I love my GX, plus skids and sliders first. Trim the bumpers for more clearance and they can get beat up a little especially if your going to replace them later.

So, is there enough interest for Pine Barrens/Wharton this Saturday AM?

Meet at Atsion Ranger Station? Somewhere else? What time? I’m up for keeping it low key, can start pretty early, but should start heading back home by early afternoon. Even if it’s only 1-2 other people, it’ll be fairly easy going, more of a shakedown for me than anything else.

Thoughts?
Did you guys figure the time that you are meeting there at? Would like to see and join although I will take the easiest route possible as did not manage getting tires so it is just stock gx with poor front tires atm. It is 2 hour ride for me so would like to know what time I should head out.

We are meet at 8:30 at the Ranger station.

Yup, Atsion Ranger station off 206. Trails should be too bad, Rich and I are both pretty well set up but we can make sure to keep you out of too much trouble!

So three of us did the “other” light wheeling trip this morning in Wharton. Was cold, but otherwise nice. Water holes were frozen as we went thru them, started on Batso Fireline from the Atsion Ranger station, which had a few water holes and some good sand washes. Deep holes had bypasses, but I found one with a very soft bottom and gave the winch a little workout.

Ran back on a few other side trails which were dry and fairly tame. Was a good shakedown for us all, the GX was newly running and it’s first time on the trail, Rich had just done a bunch of work, and my 40 had been out once but this was its first true wheeling.

No damage except for my rear springs, they’re used and probably lived for 150k miles under a FJ60, then didn’t like the workout under my 40. Need to replace them soon, they’re negative arched and will break a leaf pretty quick if not addressed.

These are Rich’s pics, I was first in line and have zero photography skills. Had a great morning and awesome to meet new friends.

I had a blast and I very appreciate guidance and help I was offered today. Learnt few tricks and didn’t break anything.
GX looked like unwanted baby next to these aggressive tires of its counterparts but still didn’t disappoint (thanks to the aforementioned bypasses). Great day overall.

It was a great day wheeling with FuglyYota and Oliwer78 out in the Pine Barrens. Kinda cool that a couple years ago I met Geoff (FuglyYota) when I purchased a set of Spidertrax wheel spacers from him. It’s always nice to meet other good people in the Keystone Cruiser and to enjoy the outdoors.

Looks like a great time. I’d love to tag along next time you guys go out. I’m new to the forum and still trying to find my way around. Where are the Pune Barrens located? Is it an off road park? Thanks for the info and I look forward to joining you guys in the future

I probably have the least experience out of all here. I decided to go Pine Barrens - google it - as my car is stock.
Seems like this thread is where all the info about local stuff is dripping in.

If you do not get to building or buying an off-roader, you are always welcome to come ride along with one of us for the day and see if it's something you want to pursue.

Thanks for the offer! That thought came thru my mind, but after joining @Rics4rnr and @FuglyYota I got some ideas and checked some options. I will focus on very slightly modifying the current ride. Got locally some BFG KO2 and spacers, now looking into a lift.
I somewhat limited myself to either LC100 or GX. LC80 or older may require more attention that I may not able to offer. Any built rig as such seems to be more $$ than what I have in the gx plus a few simple mods, although modifying a car vs. buying a modded car is almost always a bad financial choice - I have learnt that years ago :)
