What did you all use to cut the cross member out and move it. A cutting torch seems brutal. I don’t have one of those yet but something tells me I need one.

Any recommendations on an engine stand? Harbor Freight seems to be out of theirs everywhere. Finding one that can hold a straight six seems to be the challenge. Once I get that thing up I can begin the EGR delete process....

I used a Sawzall with a long blade to cut the crossmember out.

i did not know they had a blade for that? Also did you start with a drilled out pilot hole or cut from within the pipe diameter. i was hoping to re-use the pipe if its not too short

Don't reuse the tube, way too much work. Call 4+ and ask him about his crossmember relocation kit. It is very well engineered and will save you hours of work.
Dyno

Do you need an engine stand? Easiest place to store the engine is in the chassis. That being said any stand will work just be creative with the mounting bolt locations. I sure wouldn't flip the thing on the stand but it does fit and this engine has been on that stand a decade.

I am trying to find a heavy duty one so I can rotate as desired

CruisnGA; I did not see that post where someone said call him??? By The Way where are you located in GA? We have property in Rabun County

By the way for you HAM types my call sign is KC5HUD. I haven't been on the air in awhile since the last hurricane took out my antenna, nearly destroyed my house in NC, and my dad with his Alzheimers can't get back on 160. I need to get the rig going again.

Update: got the sawzall. stripped off the old brakelines, yanked the cobbled wiring harness, pulled the OEM engine mounts, pulled the leaf springs, and even took a set of springs apart! Big day!

What type of paint do you all use for the leaves on the springs?

Don't remove the motor mounts off the frame. My 3fe dropped right in with a slight slot of one mount and some existing motor mount bushings I had lying around. People use graphite paint avail at farm and home stores on the springs.

Ok. I have new motor mounts as I figured the rubber was old; 1965?

Graphite paint. Is that the color or part of the formulation?

That’s also good to know that I don’t have to have some other motor mounts.

I seem to remember using an off set mount from the 3fe on one side and a straight mount on the other. It dropped in with minimal work. I did utilize the stock 2f bellhousing motor mounts and later added the h55 transmission mount. So unlike others that used the 3f bellhousing, I used a 2f bellhousing. The 3f bellhousing tilts the motor assemble a touch if I recall.

Graphite paint is the property of the paint, slick, less resistance between the springs
