I am nearing the rebuild of mine. I have heard and read that shaving the head .030-.050 will result in power gains.
I don't recall shaving the head and block. is there an advantage to doing it this way? Or did the machine shop find something that led to this combination?

Curious about compression increase with this amount of shaving to the block and head. Will this increase the comp ratio enough for more power without requiring the use of higher (more expensive) octane gas?

Why did you decide to stick with the 2F and not a conversion? I am facing the same decision my self and have talked myself in and out of both options several times (74/40-F). Also what distributor is that and what is your carb?
there is something about a bore with a fresh hone that gives me wood, Is that weird?
