Anyone down to hit up any of the junkyards this week? I need to run to U Pull and Pay to get some F250 shock towers and the last time I was down around the junkyards I saw a FJ40 tub, frame, and jump seat in someone's storage yard. Also there are a FJ60 and a FJ62 at All Mini Trucks and some of the other Toyota's had Aisen locking hubs.

i'm busy 'till after next week, but if you see a transfer case on a FJ60 or 62, i can use it. i want one to double the case i have with. let me know if you see one.

I will keep my eye out for one when I go out. Does anyone else need me to look for stuff while I am out and about going through the yards?

Only time I can't go is Monday till 2 and Wednesday till 2.

Shawn, what adapter are you using to double the FJ60 TC?

Always looking for an 80 to rape...
Let us know if you find one!
Thanks

I will for sure! Hopefully something cool pops up when I am out there.

I think I might be going out tomorrow morning if I am I will post a time when I will be out there.

Great Selection!

Well I was at the junkyard with a friend when I was looking for F250 shock towers, and I found a great selection of cruisers. Every kind from 60's to 100's and they are all in one yard as well.

U-Pull has an 85 4Runner that is missing just about all of the front axle, but it looked liked it still had the power steering unit and maybe the cluster. I found the locking hubs in the dirt next to it and snatched those up. :)

All Mini Trucks (Be prepared to barter; he likes cash over plastic)

FJ60
FJ62
Both of had most of the front clip gone, but had the transmissions and t-cases it looked like they were still around. The 62 I believe had a complete front axle. Most of the doors were there and one chrome six spoke rim was lying around.

FJ80 X2

There was two 80s. One had rolled and didn't have a single good exterior panel. The other had front-end damage. Some good parts left on them. I am pretty sure that there was at least one front axle between them. Interiors weren't too trashed.

FJ100

It had been rolled, but the engine looked complete the back looked intact. Maybe a couple of matching rims if anyone was looking for a matching 5th. Interior not horrible.

4Runners and Mini-Truck

There are serious rows of older 4Runners. Mostly 1 and 2 generations with a scattering of 3 gens. At least one intact mini-truck front axle.

I have never gone on a true junkyard hunt to just to get parts that might be useful later on. I know at some point I want to upgrade to 4Runner brakes and to get back to original locking hubs, so if anyone is going to pull parts. Hit me up because would like to help and pick up some knowledge along the way on what I should be pulling.

since you got the PS parts from my new project, i need a PS box and hoses for a 60. i can probably use a chevy pump on a chevy engine to run it.
keep your eyes open.

:) I will see what I can dig up. I think I may call some of the other junkyards around the state to see if they have anything that interests my fancy. I'll keep an eye out for one.

There is a boneyard in Santa Fe that has historically carried 60/62 LCs. Capitol Scrap if I remember correctly. They were the ones that supplied my 3FE bits.

Good info!

Trying to think if I need anything....

Did you get the shock tower?

If not, call me. They're only $15 new from Ford. They don't stock them, but can get them in a day from Denver. I just ordered two today and will pick them up tomorrow.

Dan

That UZJ100 didn't have much salvageable on it when I looked it over. The only stock rim it had was the spare wheel/tire underneath, which is now my spare. When I lifted the hood, I seem to recall that the intake runners had been removed, but not certain.

I will agree with the assessment that cash is king there and bargaining is the name of the game.

Lol, I ordered my today as well. What dealership did you go to? I went to Bob Turner and they charged me $40 for the set. If it five dollars more than I hope they include all the bolts then. And they will be in tomorrow as well. Do you think they would price match another dealership?

I will give Capitol Scrap a call soon and see what they have in stock. I think I will also call some in Taos because when I was driving through there a couple days ago I saw three 40s.

Rich Ford. $33.60 for the two of them--out the door. I'd sure check to see if they'd match that price. $7 is, well, 700 pennies. That's a lot of pennies!

No hardware with mine I don't think. Don't want any though. I'm not about to put 4 SAE bolts on a cruiser. I'm planning on attaching the shock tower to the frame with a sleeved 16mm bolt. We'll see what tune I'm singing tomorrow when I've got them in my hands.

I did cut the stock shock tower off of the left (I'm only replacing the one side, the right I'm leaving stock) tonight. About 20 minutes all told. You will need to remove the fender and wheel to do it that quick though. Easy enough to wait until you are all ready to rip into it.

Dan

It sounds like I am just going to see if they will price match then. The sleeving the 16mm bolts seems like a good idea. I will be watching your build up thread to see how that one turns out.

Say Paul, I figure I better educate ya before those 80 boys make mince meat out of ya.

The FJ80 was offered in 1991 (90) and 1992. It had the mighty 3FE engine, and drum brakes on a semi-float rear axle.

The FZJ80 was offered 1993 - 1997. It had that other I6, but did come with 4-wheel disk brakes and a full float rear axle.

At least one of the trucks pictured was a FZJ80 (full float rear). One must be careful in this group to distinguish between the two. It really does matter when one is harvesting parts. The FZJ80 fellas get quite excited when a corpse shows up in the boneyards.

No kidding! The 80's are work horses and rarely end up in the junk yards. They just keep on running and running......:flipoff2:

Really? I see more 80s in those junkyards than 40s. :flipoff2:

Relative to the number imported they are common as dirt in boneyards. :whoops:
