if they're so common, I wish I could find them more often. Always looking for misc hardware to pilfer.

There were many more 40-Series sold than 80-Series.

1991.......8,446........FJ80
1992.......7,865........FJ80
Total FJ80......... 16,311

1993.........8,886.......FZJ80
1994.......11,007.......FZJ80
1995.......14,208.......FZJ80
1996.......12,816.......FZJ80
1997.......11,502.......FZJ80
Total FZJ80........ 47,419

80-Series US Sales 91-97...............63,730
FJ Cruiser (Mar '06 thru Feb '07)......76,213

I do not have the LX450 numbers but this information came from TMS USA so it is possible the LX numbers are included.

I will have to do some research but I believe there were over 1 million 40-Series sold in the US; easily 10 times the number of 80-Series.

Say Paul, I figure I better educate ya before those 80 boys make mince meat out of ya.

The FJ80 was offered in 1991 (90) and 1992. It had the mighty 3FE engine, and drum brakes on a semi-float rear axle.

The FZJ80 was offered 1993 - 1997. It had that other I6, but did come with 4-wheel disk brakes and a full float rear axle.

At least one of the trucks pictured was a FZJ80 (full float rear). One must be careful in this group to distinguish between the two. It really does matter when one is harvesting parts. The FZJ80 fellas get quite excited when a corpse shows up in the boneyards.

Thanks I will make sure to check that next time. I wouldn't want to be eaten by a bunch of curb hoppers.

Ya, you are going to fit in just fine. :D

Well I went to the dealership today to get my shock towers and they wouldn't price match them for me. All they did was look up the price again. Did I buy the wrong year? I got 1988 Ford F250 front shock towers. If I got the right year I would recommend staying away from Bob Turner Ford if you are buying new towers.

Bad MoJoker,

We curb hoppers will cut you some slack for now since you are new and unfortunately being led astray by Pappy. Don't press your luck though. ;)

You will find that "suggested list price" is only a guide at many auto dealers. Some will sell at published list (good luck at finding the true list price though) and some will sell at various discount levels and some will use an escalator and actually sell parts ABOVE list price. The local Lexus dealer is notorious for getting 15+% over the already inflated suggested "list" prices from Lexus.

For Toyota parts though, we are lucky that Dan will sell to us at the 'Mud discount which is a very generous % under Toyota's suggested list. No Ford parts though.

Paul, I warned you. And since you are new I'll set the record straight. 80-series Land Cruisers are for sissies and old men. I'll let you decide who fits where.

capital scrap has no cruisers, only a couple stripped minis/runners. They did have a set of complete axles from a '79-83 mini, but not the truck they came from.

In Taos there is a place, I think called Taos auto electric. They are on the road to the gorge bridge. They used to have a bunch of old minis and had an fj-45 swb/lv frame. That was a few years ago, though, and they are proud of their junk. Also Taos Off-Road rebuilds salvage tacos and runners and may have a few parts.

I prefer the term 'Curb Crusher'. It almost sounds tough.

When you're not old enough to be classified as and old man, you need all the help you can get 'sounding' tough, driving a Curb Crusher.

Ultimately, I realize I just drive a minivan with a V8.

Well Jon, you have impressed the 80 hate on this young man, hope your happy...:flipoff2:

Now we will have to re-train him to understand how the world works, thanks.

I guess an 80 is definitely not in my future.

Funny thing about this rivalry of 40's and 80's being for "old men" is that is coming from someone with more white hair on his head than most of us! But in Jon's defense, he can pretend to be as young has he wants to be. "Just for Jon" should be the name :flipoff2:

No, I was talking about Paul.

I figured, but couldn't resist.

Kids!!! HAHAHA Your going to have to wait about 10 years before trying to use that as a reason for me to buy an 80, and I plan on still having my 40 when I have kids. I will get a full roll cage and a back bench seat for my kids. Also my kids will have a vehicle to learn manual on.

I would maybe consider an 80 if I had the money to set it up for overland. But for some reason a generation 3 4Runner just appeals to me more there for some reason. And yes I know 80s have solid front axles and more room. This is up for later discussion though.

Marc don't you own at least one 40 as well?

I have 2. And I hope I have 1 functioning by the time my kids can drive (in about 8 years). I'm highly optimistic.

Holy cow, 80 series? I better get a move on.....

Ya you should.

I was on U-Pull's website today and saw a 1993 Toyota "Japan" it has to be a miss labeling, but for all we know it is an FZJ80.
