Clarification...

I posted the dates of that event because it is in July and it is in the Ouray area. I am *not* suggesting that we participate with that event. In fact, I would be against that as a suggestion. Our July event is planned as a CLUB function and I would like it to stay that way. We are free to plan camping and fishing and sight-seeing or whatever we want to do.

-Mike-

Do other "club functions" include seal hunting?.................:grinpimp:

Now that we are finally back on track...I will see you all July 5-8.

Only Mike, our resident lowrider, is allowed, as his willingness to change the cosmetic looks of his truck have been apparent.:D

We'll be staying at Silverton on July 20-24 and doing the usual wheeling: Ouray, various trails and passes, Telluride, etc. I got at least one friend, maybe two, driving up from Chicago to meet me there.

OK, after much discussion, and little input  the last weekend in July was set. mostly because we want everything to be melted or plowed off. most passes in the Ouray area are still impassable 'til mid to late July.

the Ouray area it seems is the most mentioned as the place people want to go. we do want to set up a base camp somewhere. so be thinking about suggestions on that. and what trails those attending want to hit.

i hope this hits what the majority wants, as that's what it looked like. i know it won't accomodate everyone.

Unfortunately we're out of it, whatever the date. Too much happening (including two family reunions in July, way north of Colorado...)

Well, I'm now in the process of finding a new offroading club. :crybaby: Is the October run still for Columbus Weekend? I want my shirt...then I'm leaving.:flipoff2:

Ali, I just may join you and your friends in the area as that will line up with my days off. PM me with the details if you don't mind.

PM'ed you.

Rory,
You gonna be able to make this trip? Hurry up with the head gasket project already!

Ali

true...

but having lockers and power steering would be nice :D

Power steering maybe (although I have little tolerance for PS whining because I did several trails in Moab with a 1970 40). You won't need a locker in the San Juans.

You won't need a winch in the San Juans either. Most likely not a strap.

This is a condundrum (sp?) that comes up with these CO Rocky Mountain trips pretty much every year. Despite the fact that Texans seem to swarm to this area with thier "built" rigs, there is no "wheeling" of the type that our group likes to expect. Beautiful vistas, high passes, lovely camping spots, cool temps, but Moab or BHCC it's not.

Most fun camping trip I ever had was at the top of the Poughkeepsie Gulch bowl...

That makes the trip sound a lot more appealing. And I like having the 40 on the Colorado passes because the 80 has too much body roll.

I might just take the 40 for S and Gs.

The 40 would be easier to deal with on the tighter switchbacks. But I took my 60 up there a couple years ago and ran Black Bear and Imogene with little problems. Any hard stuff I came across had easy bypasses. The worst memories I had were pucker factor drop offs, especially when I was on steep, slippery, narrow, rocky places. But that was only a couple of times. I saw small 2WD pickups getting around just fine. There are so many roads and trails up there that it's not hard to find something you are comforatble with and your vehicle can handle.

Ali, what are your plans for the 20-24? Is it open to others? I have family coming on July 28, so we're out of that weekend.

The plans are that we don't have one :D We'll be running trails, hanging out at T-ride or Ouray, play in the hot springs, etc.. The more the merrier I say.
