I had originally planned on an interior cage, not a huge fan of Exo cages. But odds are it will end up like the photo below so I went with the exo.

 Good choice then.

What can I tell you Johnny, I am a realist :)

Hey, how is the chevy/Toyota truggy in the pic been doing.. anything new with it...

no idea I just used the photo as a roll over example

Pretty slick Stan.
I didn't know you had such awesome body working skills as well!

WHy thanks Layton, you are too kind.

Stan

I've been working on getting the body work done on the cab so that I can paint it prior to starting the tube work for the back half and exo cage. I figure it will be far easier to paint it without all the tubes in the way.

Pulled out the rear window and the windshield. I had to cut out 6 places where cancer had eaten through the rear of the cab alone. All the patch pannels are welded in and the back of the cab is primed out. Lots of work for just a clean body :)

I got a little done today on the truggy. The main hoop is fit and two main cross members as well. I use the blue tape to get a visual on where the cross members are going. ALso made up two taller adjustable stands that will support the rear most part of the back half while being constructed.

I managed to get a little time today and got the main HOZ hoop bent and in. Not much but a bit. You can see the new stands in the photos, they allow for precise adjustment.

Nice work!
The body is looking perfect!
Keep the updates rolling, more pics of that bitchin little cab please.

The stands are pretty easy to make. They are made with screw jacks for scaffolding and the tube from scaffold sections. Check your local pawn shops and craigslist, lots of scaffold for sale these days. You can buy new scew jacks for $12.00 a piece. Handy to have for sure and far more finite in adjustment than jack stands.

Either way you can never have enough jack stands and adjustable stands.

I got to work on the Truggy again this afternoon. The upper hoop is tacked in with the two rear vert tubes. Also got one upper tube in. Starting to feel like a truck again. I gan get a feel for where and how I can hang the rear fenders.

I used a random piece of tube in the shop to use as a shock hoop. The final shock hoop will be taller and the front leg will land on that lower node toward the cab. It will be a mix of 1.75" and 1.50" tube

The back half is starting to come together, no more tape :)

Stan, nice build! I admire your fab skills. I love the mini's and wanted to do one next, but my wife would not survive another build.

Question for you, how much weight will those jack screws carry? Any idea?

Steve

Thanks Steve. My wife has no issues with builds, I do make a living at it though, makes a difference I am sure.

THis is from the scaffold jack web page:

At six inches height, load rating is 13,013 lbs with a 4-to-1 safety margin. At 18 inches the safe load rating is 8,838 lbs with a 4-to-1 safety margin. See our scaffolding load test results here.

Here is the web site:
Scaffold Jacks - Scaffold, Scaffolding from ScaffoldMart

I do not get under anything with just the screw jacks for support. I generally use them for positioning purposes only.

Stan

Thanks for the info Stan. I use 6 ton jack stands under the frame now, but I strongly dislike going under with just a set of stands. I usually add 6x8" wood cribbing as a safety. Makes it tight to get underneath sometimes, but gives me piece of mind. I do like the idea of a set of the jack screw stands at the bumpers or something to give that second set of support...
